As I have found that the reporting on this issue has been inaccurate and poor in terms of the facts, I am also writing out of a sense of duty to the truth. La contrition, une fois de plus, c’est pour les autres. Plus exactement : pour « l’autre », au singulier, pour le coupable universel désigné depuis un mois à la vindicte populaire, j’ai nommé le pape Benoît XVI. Le 25 Mars 2010, le journal de New York a confirmé sa vocation en "jetant" le Pape sur la page de couverture avec un incroyable canular relatif à Benoît XVI et au cardinal secrétaire d'Etat Tarcisio Bertone. Selon le journal, en 1996, les cardinaux Ratzinger et Bertone aurait enterré l'affaire, signalé à la Congrégation pour la Doctrine de la Foi par l'archidiocèse de Milwaukee, d'un prêtre pédophile, le père Lawrence Murphy.
Les faits sont un peu différents. Ce nouvel exemple de journalisme poubelle confirme comment fonctionnent les «paniques morales».
