I think they are incredible tools for learning and increasing our awareness of important issues. The power of an interesting documentary is that it can open our minds to new possibilities and deepen our understanding of the world. I’m not a big fan of conspiracy documentaries but I do like films that challenge consensus reality and provoke us to question the everyday ideas, opinions and practices we usually take for granted. There are certain iconic moments in movie history that will remain famous throughout the decades. Certain images spring to mind like; Andy and Red playing chess in the Shawshank Redemption, Luke Skywalker standing under the twin suns of Tatooine or basically the entirety of Mac and Me. Christopher Moloney, a Canadian photographer and film buff, has re-created some famous moments from a few of our favourite films using photo stills in the real-life modern locations where the films were actually shot. Fair play to him because some of these photos require a good eye, a careful hand and an amazing sense of location so the perspective is just right.
