Make // Water Lilies

Awesome. My love for water lilies goes way back. My 14-year old self had a bedroom decorated with Monet's water lilies prints (I even had an impressionist water lilies bed spread!) And when I first traveled to France 15 years ago, visiting Monet's home and gardens was one of the highlights of the trip. Make // Milk Jug Votives. Since today is Earth Day, I thought I'd dig into our recycle bin and come up with an upcycle project.

Make // Milk Jug Votives

Most upcycle projects that I see are glass-- wine bottles, jars, even beer bottles. Not too many pretty projects with plastic milk gallon jugs though. I wonder why? ;) I guess they aren't the most exciting in their original form, but with their vellum-like quality, I thought they would be perfect for a votive project. click "Read more" for the full post. I especially like the varieties with the petals that fade from dark, saturated color in the center of the flower, to a lighter color near the outer edge of the flower. So yesterday, I decided to try to replicate this look on a decorative mirror using plastic spoons. Dollar Store Crafts » Cool Craft Ideas from Dollar Store Finds. How to Make A Decorative Chrysanthemum Mirror - Addicted 2 Decorating® Diy wednesdays: knot trivet. Last month i bought lauren a set of “the family creative workshop” books for her birthday. we’ve been having a blast learning all sorts of new things as we make our way through the incredible variety of projects collected in the volumes. one section we were particularly excited to explore was all about knots, which we’ve long admired both for their usefulness and their beauty. this project is based on a “carrick bend” and is great for creating trivets and placemats, but you could just as easily hang it on your wall to be admired for its decorative charm. have fun!

A little bit of sparkly snow. I honestly can not believe it is December second.

a little bit of sparkly snow

I know you probably feel the same way. I love the Christmas season more than anything and want to savor every single thing I can about the blessing that it is. I want it to go slowly and sweetly and be covered in sparkly snow and twinkle lights. I hate the moments when the holidays become overwhelming. Decorating my home always helps me find the deepest anticipation and I admit that we have already been in heavy decorating mode over here the past week. Friday Finds – a list of tutorials for DIY Valentine gifts. While there are many who declare that Valentine’s Day is ‘too commercial’ , I have a soft spot for the day.

Not because I receive lots of hearts and flowers and cards. In fact quite the opposite. It is my eldest chick’s birthday and her father declared that this meant that we couldn’t possibly celebrate Valentine’s Day as it would detract from her special day (!!) With her birthday as the focus, I have a range of different heart shaped cake tins collected at garage sales etc and she loves her heart shaped cake each year. I'd used up all of my little thank you tags that I made a while ago for gift wrapping and Etsy parcels, so I've been making some more this week and thought I'd do a sort of tutorial post about them :) To make these I used- - 300gsm watercolour paper; card or similar would do but it needs to be quite thick so that it doesn't warp and so that the paint doesn't seep through. - Acrylic inks; alternatively you could use acrylic paints or watercolour. - Gesso; this is optional but I like to dry brush it over things to make the colours a bit more subtle. - Something to decorate the papers; I used some hand cut print blocks for these and also put them through a printer to print some patterns on them, but you could use ordinary rubber stamps or even just doodle over them :) You will also need a brush and pot of water.

Textures in home accessories seem to be the new trend right now, especially vases, bowls and candle sticks that look like molten silver has been meticulously dropped and dripped on them. So I thought I’d do a little experimenting, and I couldn’t be happier with the results! This one is silver. This one is Raspberry! First find a simple glass vase or votive, maybe you already have one?

Or find one at a thrift store. Line the opening with tape to keep the spray adhesive from getting inside. Pop in a paper to keep out the adhesive and spray paint. Spray the entire vase (outside!!) Mung Beans look like this. Slide your hand inside the paper sleeve in the top of the vase and hold it over a box or bowl or some container to catch the bouncing Mung beans. Once you have pretty good coverage, start pushing more Mung beans into open spaces. You might have sections that need more glue, but don’t use the Super 77 spray again.
