Press Conference by Prime Minister Naoto Kan. CABINET PUBLIC RELATIONS SECRETARY: We will now begin the press conference by Prime Minister Naoto Kan. Prime Minister, your opening statement please. Opening Statement by Prime Minister Naoto Kan PRIME MINISTER KAN: Tomorrow marks two months since the Great East Japan Earthquake. I have heard that as many as 80,000 people participated in volunteer activities in the areas affected by the disaster over the 10-day Golden Week holiday period.
I would like to express my heartfelt respect to each and every one of these volunteers. Over the holiday period, I myself visited shelter for the residents of Futaba Town in Fukushima Prefecture, who have evacuated from their homes due to the nuclear incident. During Golden Week I also visited a store in Yaesu here in Tokyo that sells the products of Fukushima Prefecture. And people are not just making purchases over the internet - they are also communicating with those living in the disaster-affected region.

The cultivated peanut or groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.), originated in South America (Bolivia and adjoining countries) and is now grown throughout the tropical an warm temperate regions of the, world. Peanut, an important oil and food crop, is currently grown on approximately 42 million acres worldwide.
The peanut crop in the U.S.A. is composed of four market types from two subspecies. Peanut has only occasionally been grown in northern states due to its warm temperature requirement. II. All parts of the peanut plant can be used. Peanuts are consumed chiefly as roasted seeds or peanut butter in the United States compared to use as oil elsewhere in the world. Nonfood products such as soaps, medicines, cosmetics, and lubricants can be made from peanuts. III. IV. A. B. C. V. A. B. Table 1. 1From R.G. By James Jacobs, Ag Economist USDA Rural Development ore than half of world ethanol production is produced from sugar and sugar byproducts, with Brazil being by far the world leader.
Currently, there is no commercial production of ethanol from sugarcane or sugar beets in the United States, where 97 percent of ethanol is produced from corn. Technologically, the process of producing ethanol from sugar is simpler than converting corn into ethanol. Converting corn into ethanol requires additional cooking and the application of enzymes, whereas the conversion of sugar requires only a yeast fermentation process. The energy requirement for converting sugar into ethanol is about half that for corn. However, the technology and direct energy costs are but one of several factors that determine the feasibility of ethanol production.
Sugarcane is a perennial tropical crop produced in four states: Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana and Texas. High oil prices have spurred interest in ethanol, to put it mildly. (Updated April 2014) Japan needs to import about 84% of its energy requirements. Its first commercial nuclear power reactor began operating in mid-1966, and nuclear energy has been a national strategic priority since 1973.
This came under review following the 2011 Fukushima accident. The country's 50+ main reactors have provided some 30% of the country's electricity and this was expected to increase to at least 40% by 2017. The prospect now is for at least half of this, from a depleted fleet of no more than 48 reactors.Japan has a full fuel cycle set-up, including enrichment and reprocessing of used fuel for recycle. The process of regulatory clearance for restarting 48 reactors is under way, but slow and expected to take some years. Despite being the only country to have suffered the devastating effects of nuclear weapons in wartime, with over 100,000 deaths, Japan embraced the peaceful use of nuclear technology to provide a substantial portion of its electricity.

MAFF UPDATE No.732 (Published on December 24th, 2010) Summary of the survey The World Census of Agriculture and Forestry in 2010 has been implementing the guideline, “Program of the World Census of Agriculture and Forestry in 2010” which is advocated by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, for the purpose of providing the basic materials which is necessary for planning, proposal and promotion of its administration, clarifying the structure of production or employment in Japanese agriculture and forestry and the realities in the rural areas. In Japan, the Census of Agriculture and Forestry has carried out every five years since 1950, and it becomes the 13th time in 2010. The points for results of the survey (a) As of February 1, 2010, there are 1,727,000 agricultural and forestry management entities, with a decline of 17.2% compared with the previous survey in 2005 (same as follows).
(b) The number of the farm households is 2,529,000, a decrease in 320,000(11.2%). Notes: 1. 2. Ethanol Vehicle Emissions. When blended with gasoline for use as a vehicle fuel, ethanol can offer some emissions benefits over gasoline, depending on vehicle type, engine calibration, and blend level. As with conventional fuels, the use and storage of ethanol blends can result in emissions of regulated pollutants, toxic chemicals, and greenhouse gases (GHGs).
However, when compared to gasoline, the use of high-level ethanol blends, such as E85, generally result in lower emissions levels. Today's emissions standards require ethanol/gasoline-capable flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) to meet the same emissions standards as conventional vehicles, regardless of the fuel used. Life Cycle Emissions Life cycle analysis is a technique used to assess the environmental impacts of all stages of a product's life, including raw material extraction, processing, manufacturing, distribution, use, and disposal or recycling. Using ethanol as a vehicle fuel has measurable GHG emissions benefits compared with using gasoline. EBL Reader - Natural Disaster and Nuclear Crisis in Japan : Response and Recovery After Japan's 3/11. Oil Seed Crops. Biodiesel is here; the question is whether Washington State farmers can participate in this market. In the United States, soy beans provide the primary feedstock for biodiesel production.
Palm oil from southeast Asia has also emerged as a low cost feedstock for biodiesel production. Both of these feedstocks will compete for market share with locally grown oilseed crops. Canola crop In the Northwest, the focus is on brassica crops, which includes canola, rape and mustard. Unlike the Midwestern soybean-dominated agricultural systems, Washington's growers have had limited experience producing oilseed crops in this region. Lack of widespread knowledge of the agronomics of potential biofuels crops, like canola;Lack of availability of locally adapted crop varieties;Increased risk of producing / contracting new crops; andPoor economic performance of biodiesel crops relative to other crops. A targeted research and education program is a key to overcoming these obstacles.
