Aune X1 DAC – Unboxing « Dark Lord Reviews

One of the biggest factors in music reproductions are the quality of your speakers/headphones. Secondly (imho), the quality of the recordings. And finally the way in which your files are converted from it’s digital format on your hard drive into an analog signal that your speakers or headphones can understand. For the moment, I will concentrate this post to my third point – the digital to analog conversion. FYG, I have recently reimported my entire CD collection into 16 bit 44.1 kHz lossless format.

After some thorough searching, I decided to go for the new Aune X1 DAC (Digital-to-Analog-Converter). The Aune X1 came neatly packaged from the courier. Enjoy the Music.com Award of Excellence M2Tech hiFace 24-bit/192kHz USB Digital Audio InterfaceA journey into the world of PC audio. Review By Mike GalushaClick here to e-mail reviewer I built my first dedicated audio PC in about 2001 and until now I was never happy enough with the results to keep a PC source in my system. During this time I have tried various sound cards and USB devices and ultimately ended up using a highly modified Squeezebox as I preferred that over a Parts Connexion modified Denon 2900 and the various PC based sources.

There are several high end sound cards such as the Lynx L22 or the ESIJuli@ that will provide this capability but using one of these means a full size PC with an available PCI or PCI Express slot.

According to the datasheet, the Cirrus 4344 DAC can operate at 3.3V and at 5V. At 5V operation, you get 2 dB better performance pretty much across the board. Review: Yulong U100 compact USB DAC/amp. Anyone browsing this forum has probably already had their formative experience with music.

Review: Yulong U100 compact USB DAC/amp

Maybe it was a live performance. Maybe it was a demo at an audio dealer, or a nice car stereo, or maybe even a pair of headphones. Whatever it was, it sparked an interest into quality music reproduction equipment, and here we are pursuing that goal. For me it was a combination of things. When I was a child my dad frequently played jazz, blues, and classic rock at very high volumes through some huge Altec Lansing 846A Valencia speakers, powered by a McIntosh MAC1700 integrated. In Ear Matters: [Impression] FiiO E10.

Again, just want to thank FiiO for the E10 sample.

In Ear Matters: [Impression] FiiO E10

Note, this is a pre-release E10 sample that has the same hardware as the final version, but the packaging might be slightly different. FiiO sure is fast this year with one release after another. This time it is the E10, an USB DAC with a headphone amp. Here are a few things that need to be clarify before we go into the actual impression: First, E10, like E9, is not designed to be portable as there is no battery inside. Second, E10 is a pure USB DAC that has a headphone amp section. SPEC Power Supply: via USB port Output Power: 100mW (32ohm) Sampling Rate: 24bit / 96kHz (Max) Coaxial Output: Stereo PCM Frequency Response: 20Hz ~ 20kHz SNR ≥ 90dB Headphone Impedance Range: 16ohm ~ 300ohm Crosstalk ≥ 60dB Size: 78.7mm x 49.1mm x 21mm Weight: 80g Build Quality and Accessories Build quality is already pretty solid on FiiO, E10 is no exception.

Uber Muzik Tiny Tube DAC. Okay, it’s the 1st of April, but this is not April fools.

Uber Muzik Tiny Tube DAC

Louis from The Audio Hub sent me a unit of the Uber Muzik Tiny Tube DAC, another new alternative to the $200 USB DAC/Amp offerings. What separates the Tiny Tube DAC from the rest of the market offerings is the use of vacuum tube on the DAC output stage, so far the first one I’ve seen on this price bracket. Within the first 30 minutes of spending some time with the Tiny Tube DAC, I know that this DAC is going to be a strong contender on the $200 DAC/Amp market. The D/A chip used in the Tiny Tube is a relatively unknown UAC3553B 24/48 USB Audio DAC chip from the Zurich based semiconductor manufacturer Micronas.

Analog data signal from the Micronas UAC3553B is then passed on to the 12AT7 twin triode tube, which is then passed on to the popular TPA6120 amplifier chip and out to the headphone sockets. The HRT Music Streamer II is a high performance 24bit/96kHz audio interface that allows a computer and home entertainment system to become perfect partners. With is unique topology, the Music Streamer II provides a completely isolated path between the computer and audio system. No more audio contamination by the computer; your music will always sound its best.

There are no external power supplies to worry about because the Music Streamer II derives its power from the USB buss while completely regenerating power for all its internal circuitry using a sophisticated set of proprietary circuits.
