The Course Threads Program allows Berkeley undergraduates to explore intellectual themes that connect courses across departments and disciplines. Without creating new majors or minors, the program instead highlights connections between existing courses. Course Threads help students see the value in educational breadth while also pursuing a more in-depth and well-rounded knowledge on one particular topic.

“Today, Cal Berkeley is again in the vanguard as a new generation of student activists emerges to help address some of the most pressing social issues of our era: energy efficiency, Third World poverty and disease, and sustainable housing, among others. The quiet activism pursued by today's activists may not generate as many headlines … but they may ultimately have greater impact as they mobilize the edge to transform the core.” — John Hagel and John Seeley Brown

The Ecology Center has operated certified farmers' markets in Berkeley since 1987. Farmers' markets are festive, family-friendly, open-air marketplaces where California farmers bring fresh, locally-grown fruits, nuts, vegetables, and farm-processed foods to sell directly to consumers. Ecology Center Farmers' Markets are committed to supporting small-scale farmers who practice sustainable agriculture. At the markets, you’ll find fresh baked goods, jams and preserves, juices, olive oils, goat milk and cheeses, prepared foods, nursery plants, and flowers. Often musicians entertain the shoppers, and special cultural and educational events are scheduled regularly throughout the year. Special Events
