Simply Vintagegirl Blog » Blog Archive » Tutorial: How to Make Lovely Fabric Flowers. 29 May 2010 These elegant fabric flowers are very simple to make . . . and only take a few basic supplies. The finished product is delightfully lovely, and at times can look like a real flower!

Every flower will turn out differently and that is part of the beauty! If you haven’t used those tea lights in a while, now’s the time! I hope you enjoy making these as much as we do . . . below are instructions with pictures on how to make your own. Supplies: · Synthetic Silky Fabric · Scissors · Candle (preferably a tea light) Additional supplies: · Needle and Thread, Glue Dots or Glue Gun · Buttons and/or Beads Directions: 1. Make the largest one’s diameter about half an inch larger than you want the diameter of the flower, as the petals will end up shrinking a bit. 2. You can also cut around the pattern and skip the drawing part, it just might not be as uniform . . . but with these, uniform isn’t necessary. 3.

Cut just inside the drawn lines to make a circle out of the fabric. 4. 5. My DIY Bedside Table! Over the past few weeks I've developed an obsession with side tables. You see, I needed one, and when I need a piece of furniture, I get crazoid trying to figure out how to make it. And here's what I cannot figure out about the side tables in the stores. Why are they so short? I saw lots of cute ones at Target, and when you take one off the shelf and set it on the floor, you realize that it only comes halfway up your shins. And I loooove the martini tables at West Elm, but oh my goodness. So I made one! The cardboard tube comes in a 4 ft length. Once you've cut through the cardboard, you can insert the saw into the hole and cut around. I used a keyhole saw that I got at Target for $7. I got my wood circle table top at Lowes, too. Now stand up the tube and place the table top on it. Attach the bottom the same way.

Paint and polyurethane! While the paint dries, you can cut a million little strips of vinyl. Tack the vinyl on like this. That's $27!!! Love&lace: DIY felt & leather cell sleeve. I have a confession...my new Samsung Captivate that Gary got me for Christmas has been naked all this time. Gasp! It's been making me nervous to put it in my purse for fear of getting scratched. Since there's not too many non-iPhone case options out there, I decided to make my own. Supplies 1 sheet of felt 1 piece of leather snaps or velcro hot glue gun scissors ruler needle & thread pins marking pen Instructions 1.

Place your phone on the felt sheet and measure 1 inch from the bottom of your phone. Mark a line across the entire sheet of felt, then trim with scissors. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. All done! Groovy cake. A groovy, tie-dye cake — with colors inside and out — would be fun for an end-of-the-summer party! This cake is a showstopper, but actually just uses a basic marbling technique. You tint four bowls of the batter different colors, put drops of the colored batter on top of the white batter in the cake pan and pull a knife through it, which gives it the “groovy” look. The frosting is simple, too, just use gel tubes to make hexagon shapes and then a pull a toothpick through them, starting in the center. Skittles around the bottom make it extra colorful! If you are planning on having a party, a fun idea would be to tie Dye shirts and then serve this cake.

Groovy Cake 1 box (18.25 oz.) white cake mix 3 whole eggs 1/3 cup vegetable oil 1 cup buttermilk Red, blue, green and yellow food coloring 2 (12 ounce) cans whipped vanilla frosting Assorted colors decorating gel tubes ½ cup Skittles 2 8-inch round cake pans 1. 2. 3. Re-purposing: Tshirts into 5-strand-braided-headbands. I was walking through Target a few weeks ago and noticed this little knit fabric headband that was not just braided together…….but woven. I decided they were charging way too much for something that could be made with t-shirt scraps.

And that means free. So there you have it. A nice and easy project to give my bad-hair-day head some love. (Or you may need one for working out. Or washing your face. I kinda love it on my little girl . She always has little hair fly-aways that get into her face…….and this helps with that problem. It even works great with her hair down…..and keeps that hair tucked behind her ears. And yep, good for me too. Thanks little t-shirt scraps. Want to make your own? First, find some old t-shirts. Then, cut your fabric into long strips. Next, stack your 5 strips on top of each other and sew together at one end. Now, pull on each strip of fabric so that they kind of curl on the edges. But let me explain a little better.

First, you’ll work on the left side. And that’s it. Art From Everyday Objects: Paperclips + String. So today I thought it would be a fun challenge to work with paperclips. You can’t get much more mundane than a paperclip! After much thought, I came up with paperclip earrings. If you have paperclips and some pretty cotton string, you can create these beauties. They’d probably look pretty cool as a necklace too. Here is a diagram to show you where to open the paperclip to create this triangular shape. You are basically unbending the clip at all three of the curves. Once you’ve got the triangular shape, you need to glue the ends together. Fig 1: Winding the string around // Fig 2: Starting to wrap the string around the earring, secured with Liquid Stitch Once you’ve wound all the way round and secured with glue, you can then take another length of string and wind around the width of the “earring” creating horizontal stripes or you can create a more messy look by creating a “net” design (see below).

Then just clamp on a pair of earring hooks. Categories: Art, DIY, Fashion. V and Co how to: jersey knit bracelet. I don't know what it is about this time of year that makes me just want to have my bare feet in the sand, be watching the sun setting into the ocean, and breathing in the warm salty air of the beach...as i get older, more and more i find myself missing that place i used to go to almost every.single.day. as a teen. (my skin doesn't miss it. as a matter of fact, i now wish i listened more and DID put SPF on my face...hindsight is 20/20). my mom calls me from her walk on the beach almost every morning... *sigh*yeah, i get a little homesick around this time of the year. heck on my pinterest my "dreaming of summer" has the most pictures in it. ah yes. i miss my ocean. case in point. this bracelet, brought a flood of memories, not because i used to have one like it but because i can totally see me wearing it by the beach, not caring that it's gotten salty and wet, because i can totally make another one in like less than 5 minutes flat when i get home.

*sigh* okay... *cut off excess tails! Magnetic Makeup Holder. Frame your own artwork. For a while now I have wanted to make an art piece of my own to place above our humble dining room table. The problem? I am no artist. That's right, sometimes crafty girls cannot paint or draw.. or it may just be me. Either way, I have created a fabulous piece of "art" using scrapbook paper, ribbon, fabric, cardstock, embellishments, and any other scraps you have laying around the house. It's beautiful and sophisticated, and I didn't have to use a paint brush!

Do you want to make your own? What you need: Large Frame with the piece of glass insert (I got mine on sale at Hobby Lobby. Here we go! Here are some close-ups of the different types of textures I used. Here is the end result. This project is a little time consuming, so mommies - plan accordingly! This is where the completed artwork will hang. Hope you try this fun project.

And let your husband hang your framed artwork up. ;) Ciao bella, Finish Macrame Donut Necklace. How to Make Paper Clip Earrings. Three Amigo Lip Balms Waiting for a homemade lip balm to set up is a little like developing a Polaroid.

You stand there and watch. And then you touch. And then you curse, because it wasn’t quite dry and you screwed up the pristine look. And then you watch. And touch. So my first recommendation when making your own homemade lip balm: Pour it in your container and walk away. Seriously. These are the three homemade lip balm recipes that I’ve enjoyed the most over the past couple of years. One is made with lavender essential oil, one has a main ingredient of coconut oil, and the last … well, it’s peppermint-chocolatey goodness.

Now, with all these recipes, you can substitute whatever essential oils you have on hand (or prefer). This recipe uses honey, which gives the balm a heavenly taste. Note: This lip balm is relatively soft, but I think it would hold up just fine if you wanted to pour it in a clean lip balm tube. Luscious Lavender Lip Balm Recipe More About the Color It was lovely! Big love!
