Research Studies. Our priority is the safety of our research participants and clinical research staff.
We will continue to monitor research operations and maintain close communications with research participants that are currently enrolled in active research studies. We will continue to recruit interested participants in studies in order to continue our efforts in advancing knowledge and care for people with complex neuro-inflammatory illnesses. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will notify research participants and keep them informed when we will begin appointments for onsite visits. We appreciate your patience during this unprecedented crisis and would like to thank you for your continued support and research participation. Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), Gulf War illness (GWI), as well as other fatigue-related illnesses are poorly understood. Your participation will be contributing to the knowledge and understanding of these illnesses.

Kenny L. De Meirleir is a Belgian Internal Medicine doctor who specializes in ME/CFS. He frequently partners with numerous myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) researchers in the EU, UK, US, and Australia to further the understanding of the pathophysiology of ME/CFS. He was an editor of the former Journal of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. He participated in an earlier clinical trial of Ampligen, an immunomodulator for ME/CFS. Clinic location[edit | edit source] Professor De Meirleir runs a clinic in Brussels, Hummunitas, and also at the Nevada Center for Biomedical Research in Reno, Nevada, in the United States. Epigenetics researcher wins grant to study chronic fatigue. Epigenetics researcher wins grant to study chronic fatigue Feb 28, 2012 | Kurt Kleiner Professor Patrick McGowan will explore the epigenetics of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a complex and debilitating illness that affects the brain and multiple body systems.
He received a grant last week for the work from the Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS) Association of America. McGowan, a professor in UTSC’s department of biological sciences and the director of the Laboratory for Epigenetic Neuroscience, conducts research into how environmental factors can change gene expression in the individual. “Part of the way experiences get embedded in our biology is through direct changes to how our genes work,” says McGowan. Our genes – the actual sequences of DNA that encode physical traits – are given to us at conception and never change. McGowan’s hypothesis is that there is an epigenetic change that disrupts glucocorticoid signaling in white blood cells called lymphocytes. Map of ME/CFS and CIRS Specialists – Google My Maps. Principal Investigator for Pathogen Discovery and Pathogenesis Director of Translational Research at the Center for Infection and Immunity Associate Professor of Epidemiology Columbia University, Mailman School of Public Health Mady Hornig, M.A., M.D., is a physician-scientist working at Columbia University on the role of microbial, immune, and toxic stimuli in the development of psychiatric illnesses.
Her contributions include establishment of animal models of immune-mediated neurodevelopmental disorder pathogenesis and novel approaches to neuropharmacologic treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. She also uses epidemiologic approaches to investigate the immunopathogenesis of neuropsychiatric disorders such as autism, schizophrenia, mood disorders, AD/HD, PANDAS and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. She will direct an initiative that focuses on pathogen discovery and pathogenesis in CFS. Dr. Mady Hornig - MEpedia - An encyclopedia of ME and CFS.
