Nerd project - Wikiversity

http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Nerd_project The way people construct or know their own and other's social identities affects the way people relate to each other and to their reality. By attaining a better understanding of what a nerd is, and where the spectrum of nerd identities/stereotypes came from, we may reach a better understanding of how this identity has shaped the way individuals experience and interact with society. It is also useful, for the purpose of establishing the historical record, to examine "the nerd" at a moment in history when the work of computer nerds in particular appears to be profoundly re-shaping advanced societies. This is causing a profound shift in the social acceptance and media portrayal of nerds, yet an extensive literature search shows that there appears to be almost no current activity in academic research on nerds.

November 12, 2010, 4:23 PM PST Takeaway: Maintaining command-line finesse is an important objective for Windows Server administrators. Rick Vanover offers some pointers on using the netstat command. Netstat is a command that some Windows Server admins use every day, while others only use it when there is a problem. I fall into the latter category; I use netstat as a diagnosis tool when something has gone awry, or when I am trying to track something down. The 10 parameters to the Windows netstat command can display scores of additional information for troubleshooting or everyday use.

Quick Tip: Scan Windows 7 system files to repair errors | TechRepublic

November 16, 2010, 1:44 PM PST Takeaway: Despite our best efforts, every once in a while, Microsoft Windows 7 system files will become corrupted. A simple scan can fix these system errors. Knock on wood, this has not happened to me in a very, very long time, but every once in a while the Microsoft Windows system files will become corrupted and report errors. The solution to this annoying, but fixable, problem is to repair the files. A reboot of the PC will often do the trick, but there is a way to repair files while Windows 7 is running and, presumably, you are working productively.
