New Materials International. Aerogels. Nonacenes. A new molecule has been developed by US researchers that could dramatically increase the stability of organic electronic devices. Researchers at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) recently announced the development of nonacenes, a larger and more advanced structure of acenes, a material with potential in electronics such as organic photovoltaics (OPVs) and OLEDs. The new molecules offer greater performance than those currently used and have been designed to counteract the instability of acenes. Glen Miller, associate director of the Centre for High-rate Nanomanufacturing at UNH explains: 'As acenes get larger, their stability drops tremendously and they are even more prone to degradation.' While smaller molecules such as pentacenes have been tested in devices with stabilities of around a year at best, nonacenes were previously so unstable that no molecules were actually created.

Stability Says Miller: 'There is real potential here. Documents and links. New Materials Sourcebook| | by Levent Ozler- Today's innovative architecture would be inconceivable and unbuildable without the rapid development of new building materials and technologies. Against this background Made of... not only presents a comprehensive overview of unconventional approaches to the use of materials in architecture and design but also describes the current state of research and rediscovered technologies.

Made of... shows possibilities for using new building materials for sophisticated building concepts. The content of the chapters reflects practice-oriented architectural themes - for example structurally efficient building materials, free form or ornamental surfaces, protective building layers, energy generating and luminous surfaces, or renewable and recycled resources. Made of... not only collects a broad spectrum of fascinating materials and examples of international projects, it also provides in-depth explanations of relevant technologies and applications including technical details.

Termex. Formaldehyde. Organic compound (H–CHO); simplest aldehyde Chemical compound Formaldehyde ( for-MAL-di-hide, fər-) (systematic name methanal) is an organic compound with the formula CH2O and structure H−CHO. The compound is a pungent, colourless gas that polymerises spontaneously into paraformaldehyde (refer to section Forms below). It is stored as aqueous solutions (formalin), which consists mainly of the hydrate CH2(OH)2. Formaldehyde is classified as a carcinogen.

Forms[edit] Formaldehyde is more complicated than many simple carbon compounds in that it adopts several diverse forms. "Formaldehyde" was first used as a generic trademark in 1893 following a previous trade name, "formalin".[16] Main forms of formaldehyde Monomeric formaldehyde (subject of this article) Trioxane is a stable cyclic trimer of formaldehyde.

Structure and bonding[edit] Molecular formaldehyde contains a central carbon atom with a double bond to the oxygen atom and a single bond to each hydrogen atom. Occurrence[edit] [edit] Polyurethane. Polyurethane synthesis, wherein the urethane groups — NH-(C=O)-O- link the molecular units. Polyurethane (PUR and PU) is a polymer composed of a chain of organic units joined by carbamate (urethane) links.

While most polyurethanes are thermosetting polymers that do not melt when heated, thermoplastic polyurethanes are also available. Polyurethane polymers are traditionally and most commonly formed by reacting a di- or polyisocyanate with a polyol. Both the isocyanates and polyols used to make polyurethanes contain on average two or more functional groups per molecule. Some noteworthy recent efforts have been dedicated to minimizing the use of isocyanates to synthesize polyurethanes, because the isocyanates raise severe toxicity issues.

Polyurethane products often are simply called “urethanes”, but should not be confused with ethyl carbamate, which is also called urethane. History[edit] Otto Bayer and his coworkers at I.G. Chemistry[edit] Isocyanates are very reactive materials. Swansea company builds homes from recycled plastic. Wyre Davies takes a look inside a house made entirely from recycled plastic A company is building homes made from 18 tonnes of recycled waste plastic. Affresol, of Swansea, has developed technology to build low carbon houses from the plastic and minerals. The firm, backed by Welsh Assembly Government money, has launched a range of eco-friendly homes and four-tonne modular portable buildings. Economy Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones said the "new sustainable process" had exciting potential for construction and for "green jobs".

The company claimed that eco-friendly homes like the show home at its factory on Swansea West industrial park could revolutionise the building industry. The company also makes modular portable buildings made up of four tonnes of recycled waste. Affresol developed a new material called Thermo Poly Rock (TPR) from recycled plastics and minerals for use as a structural building product. Mr McPherson said the buildings had huge potential for use across the world. Froth Pak® kit from Eco Polyurethane Systems Ltd polyurethane sp.

Styrofoam and Expanded Polystyrene Foam EPS Coating | Styrocrete. Eps_specifier_briefing.pdf (application/pdf Object) How is expanded polystyrene foam made?: Information from Answers. Background Expanded polystyrene foam (EPF) is a plastic material that has special properties due to its structure. Composed of individual cells of low density polystyrene, EPF is extraordinarily light and can support many times its own weight in water. Because its cells are not interconnected, heat cannot travel through EPF easily, so it is a great insulator. EPF is used in flotation devices, insulation, egg cartons, flats for meat and produce, sandwich and hamburger boxes, coffee cups, plates, peanut packaging, and picnic coolers. During the late 1800s, researchers seeking materials suitable for making film, carriage windshields, and various small items such as combs produced early plastics out of natural substances and chemicals.

Foaming plastics were discovered indirectly, because in the beginning no one could see their advantages. Raw Materials Design Like all plastics, EPF consists of a polymer chain with great molecular weight. The ManufacturingProcess Making styrene Molding The Future. Apparatus for making foam buildings.
