How anarchists end up in charities Work: it’s one of the hallmark contradictions faced by anarchists in capitalist society. In an attempt to minimise the contradiction, anarchists often opt for ‘the lesser of three evils’ (the other two being government and business), finding jobs in NGOs, charities and trade unions that have at least a theoretical alignment with some of the things we believe in. While we go into these organisations aware of the contradictions with our broader politics, once inside we often go in one of two directions: What can we do about it? I think there’s an alternative. In other words, we bring our wider politics into our workplaces and create spaces and relationships that can operate beyond organisational control.

So pervasive is this disillusionment with the current order that it is hard to find anyone prepared to defend it. Disorder is the new order; disequilibrium rules, and old assumptions no longer hold. As Kuhn’s theory might suggest, the rank contradictions of the current political-economic paradigm—gross inequality and massive environmental destruction—are so great that a new paradigm should emerge: a system of thought and method of political action that can address these ills, and indeed offer a better method of organizing and understanding human society.

" "Such a statement should have gotten the minister in serious trouble," said Crnjanski, who had worked with NDI as a political party and civil society trainer and was formerly senior figure in Serbia's Liberal Democratic Party. "However, there was virtually no reaction to the statement from any political parties, government officials, NGOs or the media. " She was longing for accountability, and she wasn't alone. Having rid themselves of the Milosevic regime nearly 10 years ago, the citizens of Serbia are standing up for the notion that government is there for the public good, not private gain. Crnjanski faced two main challenges in launching the website: funding and credibility. Since its launch in December, the Truth-O-Meter has been visited more than 100,000 times and continues to gain in popularity.
