Every year, monarchs travel more than 2,000 miles from their summer homes in the United States and Canada to their overwinter grounds in the rainforests of Mexico. Unfortunately, thanks to habitat loss in both regions, Monarch populations are in decline. As a result, many families, schools, businesses, organizations, and other groups have started to create butterfly gardens to help protect habitat for the butterflies. The toxic leaves of the milkweed not only provide food for monarch caterpillars, they also provide protection.
Monarchs are not the only creature that likes milkweed nectar. Milkweed flowers are also a popular source of nectar for many species of bees. Chokecherry The most important edible wild fruit of the Plains and prairie regions, the Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana) was the third main staple food of the Plains Indian diet.
The Lakota and Dakota called the first full moon after the Summer Solstice Black Cherry Moon and gathered together at harvesting grounds to collect and dry the berries, to be mixed with bison meat in the preparation of wasna, or pemmican. If you are interested in gathering these berries, be aware that the seeds are toxic and should not be eaten. The chokecherry is easily grown in home gardens and is an especially good erosion control plant. It is also an excellent plant for wildlife, especially birds, who use it for both food and shelter. The chokecherry is similar in habits and appearance to red and black chokeberries (Aronia arbutifolia and Aronia melanocarpa) and are sometimes confused by nurseries. The grammar stage begins around the age of six, or even before, and focuses on filling young heads with as much information as possible.
Considering that young children have minds like sponges, this is easy to do. This is the age to focus more on the boring names and dates side of history, because it's an age when children are most receptive to simple memorization. Getting Started With Afterschooling.
