Intel says sorry after social media flap erupts. Intel received an education in the politics of social media Wednesday when activists opposed to minerals mining in the Congo inundated Intel's Facebook page. They want Intel to pledge its support for a congressional bill that would restrict the import of "conflict minerals" that contribute to fighting in the war-torn country. Intel is among the biggest manufacturers in the electronics industry, which is highly reliant on a range of minerals. Beginning late Tuesday, supporters of the bill dominated the discussion on Intel's Facebook page, with dozens of critical comments -- many of them identical. The online activism followed a small protest on the same subject Monday at Intel's Ronler Acres campus in Hillsboro. Intel shut off discussion on its Facebook page early Wednesday and told its audience "We are in the process of creating a place for this type of discussion and we will share the link of this page as soon as we have it.
