'iQ by Intel' - experimental online magazine curated by a workforce of thousands. (Bryan Rhoads, Editor-in-Chief of iQ at Intel's offices in the Presidio, San Francisco.) I met the team responsible for this week's launch of 'iQ by Intel', an online magazine featuring daily news and feature articles from around the globe plus original content from Intel. The magazine is curated by Intel employees, choosing and sharing articles from a river of media content surfaced by special tools developed by Intel. I was pleased to hear Bryan Rhoads, the mastermind behind the project, and its Editor-in-Chief, say that I was one of the people that inspired the venture with my writings about how every company is a media company. Here are some of my notes from the meeting: - The project began about a year ago and has about 160 Intel employees curating news and feature articles but the goal is to have more than 5,000 staff-those that have had social media training — take part in the daily selection process. - 'iQ' is aimed at consumers.

(Some of the iQ team...) Intel's Latest Online Journalism Targets A Younger Crowd - Digits. Content curation is King. Intel Launches Intel iQ Digital Magazine. A new and innovative social media project comes from Intel in the form of Intel iQ, a digital magazine with content submitted by employees that aims to “connect with a younger audience and tell them the bigger story of who we are as a brand,” said Editor-in-Chief Bryan Rhoads.

The idea is very simple: when an article submitted by the company’s employees reaches a certain number recommendations it goes on the iQ front page. The content published on the front page is sometimes placed by Mr. Rhoads from the articles written by Intel employees, but the general idea is that each article should appear there democratically, based on the number of shares, recommendations etc.

Also, each material has a photo and a tag. The topics covered in this magazine vary from social media to games or rock bands. “We have Facebook, Twitter and blogs and all of that, but they’re really not tailored to a younger audience,” added Mr. Photo source Did you enjoy this? Today Intel is launching a Flipboard-like digital magazine, “iQ by Intel,” that aims to attract “a younger audience” through a blend of employee-curated content and original stories. iQ is designed to be read on smartphones and tablets.

So far, it’s mostly a lot of pieces from TechCrunch and Mashable. iQ editor-in-chief Bryan Rhoads tells AdAge that iQ’s goal is to “connect with a younger audience and tell them the bigger story of who we are as a brand. Many of them don’t know, so we need to tell them the story of Intel that is beyond PCs and beyond processors.” He goes on to say, “We have Facebook, Twitter and blogs and all of that, but they’re really not tailored to a younger audience.” Hope you kids like a lot of stories from those old-fashioned blogs, because that’s mostly what’s here: Right now iQ’s front page is made up almost entirely of stories from The Next Web, TechCrunch, Mashable and Engadget.
