Now I am back, I just want to give a big shout out (and a big thank you) to my new sponsors, pi’ikea street and paper glitter….do check their sites out! I also wanted to say a massive thanks to all the people who have left comments lately (and to those who have sent me lovely emails). I do confess that I have always had a ‘thing’ about string-tie envelopes. These dinky little envelopes are great for all-sorts of things (storing paper ephemera, housing invitations/gift cards, storing seeds). By the way, now my kids are getting better at using scissors they have been really enjoying making their own envelopes using the template from my previous post.

Job done! Surprise Dad with the Smallest Toolbox Ever! May28 by Brenda Ponnay Altoid Tin Mini Toolboxes for Father’s Day I’ve been wanting to craft with Altoid tins since forever. Have you ever googled all the things you can make with them? It’s mind-blowing. It makes me wonder if Altoid stays in business more for their tins or for their curiously strong mints. I thought about it and thought about it and decided these tins would make a great caddy for holding collections of little odds and ends. While I realize that dads might not be into little mini toolboxes as much as I am, I still thought it would be a fun craft to do for Father’s Day. Let’s get crackin’, shall we?

(and I don’t give out that praise lightly!) Felt-dahlia-flower. I’ve been wanting to make more of these flowers ever since I made one a few months ago, but my plans always fell by the wayside. (along the wayside are also my plans for world domination and the best chocolate chip cookie recipe in the world, but what can you do?) When I asked Sadie if she liked this flower, she said,”yeah…? It’s a circle.” Well said, darling. Here’s how I made it! You’ll need:felt (I use a wool felt blend)hot glue gunpin backscissors First you’ll need to cut out a bunch of leaf shapes, mostly large pieces, plus a few small ones.
Then Cut the leaf pieces in half. You won’t need this many small ones, but I wasn’t sure so I cut a bunch. Then dab some hot glue in the center of the flat end of the petal. Then dab some glue and fold back the two loose ends to create a petal that looks like this! Keep gluing until you can glue them around the outside of the circle! Then add another circle on top of the first circle. Random Tutorial Generator. 8 Cute DIY Bookmark Ideas. Bookmarks | 26 comments I don’t really use real bookmarks. I’m not sure why. They’re not expensive, or hard to make, but I tend to just pick up whatever to mark my pages. Old receipts, scraps of paper, a pencil, etc. (For those curious, I finished A Million Suns a couple days later and really enjoyed it!
I’ve been eye-ing lots of super cute DIY bookmarks for the last few months that I’ve seen pop up around the web. The problem is, often my bookmarks fall out and I lose my page. Page Corner Monster Bookmark Template from I Could Make That. About the Author: Sewing 101: making a pouf. Add a burst of color to your room with this crafty pouf! At 17” wide and 10” deep, it’s large enough to serve as floor seating or a foot stool. (And if you have pets, I have a feeling they may want to make this their new favorite spot!) This project is a little challenging to sew, but it’s not too difficult, so if you’re comfortable with the basics of sewing, give it a try. You can make a colorwheel effect with a range of solid colors, or choose a variety of patterned fabrics for a louder patchwork effect.
I love the idea of making a set of these poufs in a range of sizes, for a sculptural stack of cushions that will become a room element in their own right. Some months a go I shared the Love wall art template, along with that one I made this one, but unlike the previous one I wanted to make this word different and special, so no cardboard. Instead I used a piece of Styrofoam from a box we received last week. When I saw it a knew it was perfect for this project =] And instead of painting or covering it with fabric (my first idea) I decided to just go the Decoupage route with hot pink tissue paper. It ends up being so light! I just double tape mine to the wall and it works like a charm!

Make Your Own Laundry Detergent! It's Easy! Save BIG & Have Fresh, Clean Laundry! Well, I did it! I have pinned various recipes for homemade laundry detergent for months, now, thinking that soon I would gather the exotic ingredients and muster the courage to make some. I should have paid a lot more attention to those recipes I was pinning.
There is nothing exotic about the ingredients, nor is it difficult. I’m actually mourning a little bit, for all the money I have wasted over the years, just not realizing I could do this quickly and simply. Two weeks ago, I sat down to earnestly study all the pins I have for DIY laundry detergent. With a few minor variations, they are all essentially the same. Once I actually stopped to look at the details, I was shocked. My own DIY brand! The one thing that they all had in common was that they make gigantic batches – 10 to 12 gallons, at a time. Why would I bother to make laundry detergent when I could just conveniently grab a bottle off the shelf at the store?

Here is how I made my Christmas tree ornament mobile, it was easier than it looks, promise. The Supplies a 17″ steamer rack from a restaurant supply storeabout 5 feet of lightweight jack chaina small carabiner100 basic ornament hooksone roll, 500 feet, monofilament jewelry string (not the stretchy sort)200 jewelry crimp beads or tubesjewelry crimping tool100 lanyard hooks100 ornaments Note: In the photo above I show earring wire instead of ornament hooks.
I changed that later as I found ornament hooks made it far easier to move ornaments around after they’d been hung. Also, my supplies are based on a 4 foot tall mobile using almost 100 ornaments, you’ll need to adjust amounts if you make one larger or smaller. Creating the Mobile Frame Creating the frame for my ornament tree mobile turned out to be fairly simple. For the top of the mobile I needed something that would allow me to easily secure a lot of hanging points without them sliding around too much. Notes: Why so many hooks and bits? Tissue Rosette Kissing Balls.
*Update–Many of you have had questions about how to “twist” the paper. I have made a quick video showing you how. You can find the video for how to make tissue flowers here: How to Make Tissue Flowers Video Thanks everyone for all your sweet comments about my last Valentine’s day project…the “Be Mine” Framed Art. I had some requests for a tutorial on how I made the tissue paper rosette decor balls {kissing balls}. Well, lucky day, I had this post already scheduled to go!
These tissue rosette balls are not my original idea. Many of you will remember that I have made these before and have them hanging in my daughter’s room. First off you will need a couple of rolls of tissue paper streamers. Start by cutting the paper into strips about 24 inches long. Now take your strip and start on one end and begin rolling it up between your fingers.
After you have a few rolls, continue to roll it up but now twist the paper. Now just continue to roll and twist until you have reached the end of the strip. How to Make a Fabric Bow | Tutorial.
