We recommend doing this style with straight hair (that will make it easier to manage the strands!) Teasing Brush (optional!) If you’re looking for another way to jazz up the everyday ponytail, look no further! The Chinese Staircase Ponytail is among the many variations of the traditional style, but definitely stands out in the crowd.
While it may look complicated and time consuming, this style is actually quite simple! Step 1: If you want a more glam look, tease the crown of your hair for added volume. Step 2 – Step 4: Grip the strand with one hand, and using the other wrap the strand around the front of the ponytail and loop it to create a knot. Step 5: Gather another strand of hair from the ponytail and combine it with the end of your knot. Step 6 – Step 10: Repeat step 4 on the new strand of hair.
Step 11: Secure the bottom with an elastic. Voila! How To Style Maiden Braids. Last month I did a makeover story with Kelsie and had many requests for a maiden braid tutorial. Yesterday she came in and we photographed these simple step by steps. Kelsie has extremely long and thick hair, but anyone with shoulder length or longer can do these braids (see my photo below for an example).
Steps 1-2: Braid two strands on each side of a center part. Steps 3-5: Wrap braids around the crown of your head and pin in place with one pin each. Step 6: Arrange braids so that they cover the front of your head like a headband. Pin into place more securely until you feel comfortable. Steps 7-8: Pull the rest of the hair into a ponytail and pin it into a cute messy bun.

Wee ones need beauty too! It’s a very “sweet” look and will keep a flower girl’s hair out of her face all day. This braid may be a little “young” for some, but it will probably come in handy at some point! To be totally honest, I’ve worn it and you can’t tell it’s a heart until you’re standing above it. It just looks like two braids running down the back of your head. Part your hair into two sections by splitting it down the middle.Starting at the crown of your head, make the curve from the top of the heart. Good luck little ladies! Since we LOVE braids around here, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use her shiny brown hair to show you how to do this quick one. It’s similar to the waterfall braid, but much faster and less confusing. Start this like a regular braid, but drop the top piece through to the bottom and leave it there.Gently twist the 2 pieces you’re left with upward.Add a new 3rd piece in between + drop it through.Twist again and repeat.

CROWN OF BRAIDS. Photos + post design Kristin Ess It seems pretty easy, but it’s not. Not everyone has long hair that reaches all the way around the head to make a perfect crown of braids. Girls with short hair need braids TOO! Using this technique, you make small, overlapping intersections of braids to create a full crown. Here’s how: Start with straight, wavy or curly hair. I personally like this best with a little wave or curl because the crown of braids holds better with texture.Grab a section of hair above the ear and split it into 2 pieces, like our lovely Nora is doing in this photo.Braid both pieces. A veil of hairspray isn’t necessary but will help keep things in place if your hair tends to slip.
