The Chinese Staircase Ponytail - Kouturekiss - Your One Stop Everything Beauty Spot - kouturekiss.com. November 8, 2012 For this tutorial, you will need: Elastics (small clear one if possible)Hair Gel (only needed if you have fly-aways!) We recommend doing this style with straight hair (that will make it easier to manage the strands!) Teasing Brush (optional!) If you’re looking for another way to jazz up the everyday ponytail, look no further! The Chinese Staircase Ponytail is among the many variations of the traditional style, but definitely stands out in the crowd.

While it may look complicated and time consuming, this style is actually quite simple! Step 1: If you want a more glam look, tease the crown of your hair for added volume. Step 2 – Step 4: Grip the strand with one hand, and using the other wrap the strand around the front of the ponytail and loop it to create a knot. Step 5: Gather another strand of hair from the ponytail and combine it with the end of your knot. Step 6 – Step 10: Repeat step 4 on the new strand of hair.

Step 11: Secure the bottom with an elastic. Voila! How To Style Maiden Braids. Last month I did a makeover story with Kelsie and had many requests for a maiden braid tutorial. Yesterday she came in and we photographed these simple step by steps. Kelsie has extremely long and thick hair, but anyone with shoulder length or longer can do these braids (see my photo below for an example).

Steps 1-2: Braid two strands on each side of a center part. Steps 3-5: Wrap braids around the crown of your head and pin in place with one pin each. Step 6: Arrange braids so that they cover the front of your head like a headband. Pin into place more securely until you feel comfortable. Steps 7-8: Pull the rest of the hair into a ponytail and pin it into a cute messy bun.

Step 9: Add final pins and spray. THE HEART BRAID. Photos/design/post by Kristin Ess Since it’s wedding season, we thought it would be a good idea to do a post on flower girl hair. Wee ones need beauty too! It’s a very “sweet” look and will keep a flower girl’s hair out of her face all day. This braid may be a little “young” for some, but it will probably come in handy at some point! To be totally honest, I’ve worn it and you can’t tell it’s a heart until you’re standing above it. It just looks like two braids running down the back of your head. Part your hair into two sections by splitting it down the middle.Starting at the crown of your head, make the curve from the top of the heart. Good luck little ladies! BRAIDY BUNCH. Photo: kristin ess + thebeautydepartment.com post designed by kristin ess This week my little sister came to stay with me. Since we LOVE braids around here, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to use her shiny brown hair to show you how to do this quick one. It’s similar to the waterfall braid, but much faster and less confusing. Start this like a regular braid, but drop the top piece through to the bottom and leave it there.Gently twist the 2 pieces you’re left with upward.Add a new 3rd piece in between + drop it through.Twist again and repeat.

Remember there are only 2 main steps to this braid: twist + add a new piece. Today we’re showing you how to create a hybrid of our two favorite things– a bun and a braid. Certainly you’ve racked up some mileage on Ballerina Bun Airlines. Perhaps you’re bored and want to put a new twist on things…? This is the perfect way to keep it simple + fresh. This could be amazing for those mornings you’re rushing to work, or you can pop in a sparkly bow where the bun and braid meet for an adorable holiday party updo! Quick, pretty and polished. Photos by Post designed by Kristin Ess TOOLS: water based pomade, 2 clear elastic ponytail holders, a comb or teasing brush, bobby pins.

Flip your head over and put a little bit of pomade at the root. Xx Kristin Related posts: PRIM + PROPER. Photos: post designed by kristin ess Today we’re introducing you to one of the easiest hair tutorials ever– the braided bun! It can be done on almost any texture or length of hair, using regular or fishtail braids! Luckily, we have our very own gorgeous/genius photographer, Angela Kohler, (in front of the lens for once) to show us how this is done… Before you start, know that this hair style is just 5 simple braids, made into a bun shape.

It makes things a little less complicated when you think of it like that. Ok, let’s get going: TOOLS: curling iron, 5 clear elastics, bobby pins, sectioning clips and hairspray is optional! Start by curling your hair. Our email box is literally flooded with requests for updos so here’s a fun one to get us all going! This is always a favorite for attending an event. This updo looks gorgeous on any hair color but particularly amazing with hilighted hair because it gives the hair lots of depth and dimension.

For lack of a better word, I love the way it becomes “swirly”. Best thing is; it’s easy to do, gorgeous and keeps your hair out of your way for the night. I made this a printable tutorial, so all of the steps are next to the photos. Tools you’ll need: curling iron (to prep the hair with waves), sectioning clips, teasing comb or brush, clear elastic rubber band, bobby pins, light to medium holding hairspray (to mist over at the end). CROWN OF BRAIDS. Photos + post design Kristin Ess It seems pretty easy, but it’s not. Not everyone has long hair that reaches all the way around the head to make a perfect crown of braids. Girls with short hair need braids TOO! Using this technique, you make small, overlapping intersections of braids to create a full crown. Here’s how: Start with straight, wavy or curly hair. I personally like this best with a little wave or curl because the crown of braids holds better with texture.Grab a section of hair above the ear and split it into 2 pieces, like our lovely Nora is doing in this photo.Braid both pieces. A veil of hairspray isn’t necessary but will help keep things in place if your hair tends to slip.
