Man lives out daily contradictions in his relationship with nature. In my work I express the harmony of nature's beauty and man's use of it. By using only two materials, porcelain and feldspar, I have controlled their reaction at a specific level of heat. Porcelain and feldspar are naturally occurring materials, and in combination, under controlled heat, they change in expression from solid to fluid. My intention is to offer a place of contemplation, bringing nature closer to us, and magnifying detail of its reality. Japanese designer, Kenya Hara says, 'white can be attained by blending all the colours of the spectrum together, or through the subtraction of ink and all other pigments. (Mud)Bucket: Kuraoka Says to Know. There isn't much I can say about Goro Suzuki except that he is probably the most famous Japanese potter, which is odd becuase you can't really find information about him very easily. He is known for his contemporary work in the traditional Japanese style of Oribe which is characterized by the flowing green glazes and strong geometric illustrations.
I really like some of his work, like these stacked boxes, as well as some of his shino tea bowls, and while I appreciate his style conceptually, overall I'm just not the biggest fan. Has anyone seen his work in person? Or know more about him? Please share. :) (images via Lacoste Gallery) Leeds Craft Centre & Design Gallery / Amore. Karin Eriksson. I’m captivated by Swedish ceramics designer Karin Eriksson, a self-employed designer since 2000 based in Solna, Sweden whose ideas and inspiration are drawn from fashion and nature.
Karin carefully designs and handcrafts the most dreamy ceramic wares ever! She creates everything from bowls to plates, vases (which I’m hooked on lately, can’t you tell?) And mobiles, along with many other delicate beauties that you’ll want to display and use in your home. I really enjoyed reading about her creative process, which begins by building collages from collected pictures, drawings and text (one was featured in a recent coffee + cre8tive post). She also has a style blog – tres fantastique! (photos from karin eriksson) Small wall art anastasaki opto contemporary ceramics.
