I’m so excited that the weather is warming up here in Melbourne after a very long winter. I had a child free hour up my sleeve last night so decided to tackle two projects at once! Clean out my wardrobe and make a new spring dress. Not really as ambitious as it sounds when you throw a little creative wardrobe refashioning in the mix. I’ve had this business shirt in my wardrobe for years, it still fitted well and the fabric is beautiful quality (and was an expensive purchase) but it was a little too ‘corporate’ for my life style today.

The maxi dress was a hand me down from my sister, nice fabric, but totally unflattering on. Both were on their way to the op-shop. You will need: Fitted shirt Long dress or skirt 0.5cm (1/4″) wide elastic length = waist measurement Sewing machine Overlocker (serger) optional General Sewing supplies One Hour Skills: Confident beginner or intermediate sewing skills Apply elastic How to: 1. 5. Fashion trends change in the blink of an eye, and those of-the-moment threads you picked up last season are already on their way “out.” Sure, you want to keep up with the latest fashions, but buying new clothes each season can be pricey. Prematurely tossing those once-trendy duds also produces excess waste, increasing your impact on the environment. So, what’s a green girl to do? Rather than heading to the mall for the latest fashion find, repurpose old, rarely-worn clothes from your closet and other recyclables from around the house to create new-to-you outfits that are as stylish as you are.

Read on for ideas you’ll love. Homepage Image: Erica/Caught on a Whim Photo: Gina Michele/Rock Mosaic This spin-ready circle skirt is so fun and flirty, you’d never guess it was recycled. Rock Mosaic blogger Gina Michele sourced her cashmere and wool sweaters from a local thrift store. You Asked, Earth911 Answered: How to Make Your Clothes Last Longer. Living On A Shoestring...: Holloway Car Boot Sale. Evening all! I said I would post about my car boot sale adventures so here I am doing exactly that! I am a regular at Battersea Car Boot and will be sure to give you my full opinion of that after next weekend as I might well have my own stall there next Sunday! This weekend, however we were at our flat in north London and had no roast lunch in Battersea to draw us near (as my parents are away and we've got their dogs!)

So we thought we'd give our local car boot sale a go so off we trundled to Holloway... First we went on Saturday morning and were really dissapointed with it apart from this stall:Which had very cheap vintage-style pretty things- like patterned cupcake cases, shabby chic kitchen accessories and coat hangers with birds on them- it was very me and I wanted to buy most things there, especially this cutlery cabinet:and I fell in love with a picnic hamper... but no money, no space... blah blah blah!

But what about the loot? Would you recommend it though? Knitty.com. Okay, for a few months now you've been dabbling in Kool-Aid dyeing, and love the feeling of creating your own colors. But what if you don't like candy colors? What if that sickly sweet smell makes you gag, or makes your cat drool? You, as an ordinary individual, have access to a hundred years of chemical research, and you can use exactly the same dyes as industry does - the ones where the fabric will shred decades before the colors fade.

Better yet, you may want to use animal-protein fibers as a substrate, not just wool and silk but luxury exotic stuff from cashmere to possum. These allow you to use acid dyes, possibly the easiest ones ever invented. In fact, they pretty much work like Kool-Aid, which is where assiduous Knitty reading is its own reward. You may have thought professional dyeing was a messy, mysterious and possibly toxic process. Acid dyes however are a lot friendlier, both to you and the environment. It's important that the fiber be thoroughly wet before you start. Erin McMorris - Millie Moon Haberdashery. DIY: The Copper-leafed Shoes | The Dandy Project.

February 18, 2011 It was the night before fashion week, and a package of delight had arrived at my doorstep, all the way from Latvia. the most perfect pair of vintage brogues in varying tones of brown, a gift from Beta of Beta Pour Homme (Do check out her online store, filled with vintage men’s pieces from around the Baltic area in Northern Europe.

I think her selection is exquisite, and the prices very reasonable.) I had two options. I could either get started on packing, or do a quick and easy DIY project. From experience, I knew I couldn’t achieve the same wattage of shine with metallic paints, and I like the subtle crumpled-foil texture of metal leaf. I taped off the edges of the cap toes, multiple times, just to be sure. I brushed on some metal leaf adhesive size, (available at most art supplies stores) and waited until it dried clear. I then laid on a full sheet of copper leaf (significantly cheaper and infinitely more interesting than gold leaf!) Close-up of the texture. Handmade Tie Back Aztec Skater Dress | Syd & Mallory. Sew, Cook, Laugh and Live: Dying paper doilies.

By now, you all must have realised that I love doilies. I have pictures up the top on the banner of this page, down the side as blog buttons & my house is full of them. I love to dye them all fantastic bright & funky colours. I have just dyed my first batch of paper doilies! I love them! It was so super easy. You just need food colouring, water, gloves & a shallow dish that is a little bigger than your doily. The brighter you make the colour, the better your doily will look. Just put the food colouring & some water (about 1cm deep) in the shallow dish & mix well. Make sure you use gloves other wise you will end up covered in food colouring! Dip the doily into the colour & gently push it down so it is all covered. Place the doily gently onto a tray that is covered with a paper towel. Place on a cookie cooling rack until completely dry. Make sure you have a baking tray under the racks to catch any excess dye.

These beautiful paper doilies are going to come in handing for so many uses! Exotic Grandmother: Tie Dye for easy spring wardrobe update and tutorial.
