Latest Weather Observations for the Brisbane Area. A Must See Chart on SAMR Model and iPad Teaching. My Interactive Image. SAMR Model - Technology Is Learning. SAMR Model - Technology Is Learning. Taking a dip in the SAMR swimming pool. I recently got to watch the SAMR master himself, Dr.
Ruben Puentedura take the stage at iPad Summit Boston. His SAMR model research is based on years of observing 1:1 technology integration in Maine’s Student Laptop initiative (now called MLTI as we love acronyms in education). At its simplest form, the SAMR model states that when you introduce technology to an environment, like a classroom, generally the first thing the user will do is figure out a way to use technology as a Substitute for an existing task. As you “climb up the SAMR ladder” you see a shift of pedagogical practice from teacher-centered to student-driven. What Teachers Need to Know about SAMR Model. SAMR was developed by Dr.
Ruben Puentadura as a model for technology integration into the classroom. It is presumed to help teachers make a better leverage of technology in their teaching. I outlined below a basic definition of what each stage represents. I have also compiled a list of some good videos to help you learn more about SAMR. Substitution This is the stage where you use technology to substitute what you could have done with pen and paper. one popular example of this is using word processor to type a story instead of handwriting it. Augmentation This is where technology is used to carry out learning tasks in relatively more efficient ways. the technology here only adds value to the assignment and does not transform how it is done, examples of this include using spell checker, grammar checker or electronic dictionary.
15 Sites and Apps for Augmented Reality. SAMR Model Explained Through Examples. SAMR is one of the relevant learning models teachers can use to effectively integrate technology in education.
I have been doing some readings into it and have also posted a wide variety of articles and graphics on what teachers need to know to apply this model in their technology practices in the classroom. I invite you to check this section to access the resources I have compiled over the last couple of months. Today I am sharing with you a great Prezi presentation created by Jim Cash and entitled " SAMR Examples ". In this presentation, you will get to learn about some of the ways you can use SMAR model in each of its stages. Before you start reading the presentation, here is a refresher about SAMR model levels: 1- Redefinition tech allows for the creation of new tasks, previously inconceivable. 2-Modification Technology allows for significant task design 3- Augmentation Technology acts as a direct tool substitute, with functional improvements.
Using SAMR to Teach Above the Line. For as long as I can remember I have been an advocate for helping teachers understand the stages of technology integration to help them effectively use tech as a tool for learning.
I’ve adopted a few different tech integration models over the years, discussed the ideas with administrators for use as a starting point for tech integration, and kept the ideas front of mind as I invent and discover new ways for using technology as a tool for learning. Discussing the stages of tech integration has led to some thought provoking and inspiring conversations, but the ideas have not gained a lot of momentum in my face-to-face teaching environment until now.
As many districts jump on board with 1:1 implementation, Apple’s use of the SAMR model as a framework for tech integration presents a consistent, clear and powerful message that is spreading! About SAMR Researchers have determined that technology integration typically moves through specific levels. Image created by Dr. An Emphasis on Task Design. Transformation SAMR and Redefinition. It is interesting to consider how apps might be used to satisfy the various transitions in the SAMR Model.
This is a work in progress and this reflects my understanding of the model. I am starting by looking at Redefinition. When I attended Dr. Puentedura’s sessions, at a recent conference, he described work where all four transitions were being involved in the completion of learning tasks. In the suggestions here, for example, when a word processor is used in Book Creator or Evernote this would really just be “Substitution” and yet it forms part of the “Transformed” / “Redefined” product which is the desired outcome.
Below I consider how apps might fulfil the Modification Transition in the SAMR Model. .Below are the groups of apps used by Dr. Education, learning & technology. Conferences Published on March 17th, 2013 | by Mark Anderson Whilst I’ll write a longer post soon about the inspiration from the day today at Berkhamsted’s “Teaching, Learning & Assessment” conference yesterday, I did say that I would put up my presentation and resources from the session.
So here they are: My presentation: The SAMR Model: Background and Exemplars. iPad Apps Classified by SAMR model. The SAMR model helps teachers and educators understand and better integrate technology into their teaching and learning. This model was created by Dr Robin Puentudura with the explicit aim of helping teachers in designing, developing and integrating digital media to increase students overall academic achievements. The four levels of this model are : Substitution, augmentation, modification and redefinition. Have a look at the image below to learn more about these four levels.
