Broadband Plays Catch-Up in Rural Areas, Outpaces Growth in Big Cities Broadband Penetration Rate Grows 16 Percentage Points in Rural Areas Over Past Two Years, Significantly Outpacing that of Metropolitan Areas RESTON, VA, August 19, 2009 – comScore, Inc. released a study on broadband growth in rural, micropolitan and metropolitan areas in the United States. The Internet consumption includes all web-related expenses such as broadband installment expenses, payment for online game and shopping, and payment for IP phone services. according to Fu Zhihua, director of the Data Center of the China Internet (DCCI) research department that conducted the survey. The DCCI survey also reports that Sina Corp., Netease.com Inc., Tencent and Sohu.com Inc., China's four largest Internet portals, have gained most from the robust Internet industry, accounting for about 76 percent of total web portal revenue in China.

Nearly six out of 10 Americans who use social media interact with companies on social media Websites, according to a September 2008 study conducted by Opinion Research Corporation for Cone . The researchers found 85% of social media users thought companies should interact with their consumers through social media, at least when needed. “Americans are eager to deepen their brand relationships through social media,” said Mike Hollywood, director of new media at Cone, in a statement. “It isn’t an intrusion into their lives, but rather a welcome channel for discussion.”
