The Demographic Landscape of Social Networks

Before diving in, I think its best to discuss where our data comes from. Amzini is a directory of over 900 social websites that are visited over 7 billion times per month, by over 900 million visitors (Compete.com). We collect demographic information on each website from Alexa.com, who uses their toolbar to provide estimations of the audience's composition for each site. On an individual site level, these statistics often must be taken with a grain of salt due to small sample sizes and Alexa's bias towards the technologically saavy crowd. In the social media ecosphere, we at Strategic Objectives believe those who understand their audiences best have the highest likelihood of generating the best results. PRs need to understand how to tell a brand’s story and make it speak to audiences so effectively that the message can transcend all platforms and inspire sharing. PRs are natural communicators, but even here, you really need to understand your audience to maximize results. Everyone is trying to figure out user behaviors online. Once we understand behaviors, we can better understand how to reach our target markets and build the best and highly-engaged online communities for our clients.

Why Renren is NOT “The Facebook of China” Renren is preparing for an IPO today at a $4+ billion dollar valuation.

Why Renren is NOT “The Facebook of China”

We can also prepare for a billion articles selling Renren as “The Facebook of China.” Here’s why that’s NOT true. 1) Facebook is dominant, Renren is NOT Facebook is stunningly dominant, a single network that spans demographics, generations, and geographies. Literally everyone I know in the US is on Facebook, most of them daily. Renren is nowhere close. Sina Weibo is far greater threat to Renren than Twitter ever was to Facebook. RedTech Advisers has a must-read powerpoint on “The Rise and Stall of SNS in China” (embedded below), which also questions Renren’s sketchy numbers, saying “we see Renren’s page views and user views down 14% from 6 months ago (compared to a 3x rise in microblogs).” Asia Internet Usage Stats and Population Statistics. Modeling The True Value Of Social Networks: 2009 Edition. A year ago we modeled out the true value of various social networks based on the idea that users in high-value online advertising markets like Japan, the UK and the U.S. were worth more (financially speaking) than those in lower value online advertising markets.

Facebook had recently become the largest worldwide social network in terms of users, but based on our model MySpace was still by far the most valuable social network. We’ve now remodeled social network valuations based on current user numbers and Facebook’s most recent $10 billion valuation. The results are dramatically different. Based on the original year-old model, if Facebook was worth $15 billion (their then-current valuation), MySpace, with far more U.S. users, was worth nearly $20 billion: Our model takes Comscore data for available countries and regions.

The bottom line: If Facebook is worth $10 billion today, MySpace is worth just $6.5 billion. Lots of charts and graphs below. Social Media Marketing Industry Report. Social Media Marketing Industry ReportBy Michael Stelzner Social media is seen by many marketers as the next gold rush.

29 social networks that have at least one million visitors per day. Although Facebook is by far the largest social network out there, the social network sphere is large and has a ton of players. We were curious about which of them are the most active. To find these sites, we decided to focus on the number of daily visitors to each site. The number of (unique) daily visitors is an interesting metric since it doesn’t rely on registered users (who may or may not be active) or monthly visitors, where some may visit the site as seldom as once per month. In short, you get a good idea of the day-to-day activity on a site. ASAP TECHWORKS Best City Iowa Social Media / Website / Graphics / Video production - News - Social Media Fascinating Statistics.
