I'm fed up with that "Zombie"-stuff anyway. @ejs2000: I think making things more stylish and Gothic is fine for ramping up the "dark" (Return to Oz sticks in my head as an example, or early Tim Burton) and works for me. It's making things, as I said bellow, just mindlessly more perverse and violent that can please go away now (Todd MacFarlane's Oz toys, current Tim Burton).
For me, the distinction isn't so much about creativity as it is maturity. @ejs2000: on the contrary, i believe that efforts like these show a great amount of creativity and intellectual interest, not to mention demonstrating a keen understanding and love, even reverence for the original works. Interpretation, done well, honors the original while creating something new and engaging.
