Why Herman Cain Is The Koch Brothers’ Favorite Presidential Candidate. By Scott Keyes on October 7, 2011 at 10:20 am "Why Herman Cain Is The Koch Brothers’ Favorite Presidential Candidate" Herman Cain and the Koch Brothers Former pizza executive Herman Cain’s rise to the top of the Republican presidential pack will undoubtedly put smiles on the faces of two brothers: Charles and David Koch.

The Koch Brothers are infamous for using their billions to finance the Tea Party and helping to gut business and environmental regulations. Though the Kochs have not made a public endorsement in the Republican presidential contest, Herman Cain’s rise from niche radio host to presidential frontrunner appears to have been largely fueled by the Koch network. Given the extensive connections between Herman Cain and the Koch Brothers, ThinkProgress asked the former pizza executive about his thoughts on David Koch back in March.

Watch it: The Koch Brothers’ investment in Herman Cain appears to already be paying dividends in advancing their corporatist agenda. Herman Cain Racism | Candy Crowley Herman Cain | Video. On State of the Union today, Candy Crowley pressed presidential candidate Herman Cain on whether disparities in education and incarceration rates between America at large and the African-American community were forms of institutionalized racism and whether black citizens are on the same economic playing field as everybody else in the United States. At the Values Voters Summit, Cain proudly boasted that he had succeeded in fulfilling all of his American dreams, and in answering a question that a reporter gave him about whether he was angry at America for what his ancestors went through, Cain asked “What is there to be angry about?”

Crowley cited high unemployment and incarceration numbers among African-Americans, telling Cain there are “a lot of things” many black voters would have to be angry about in the United States. She asked him whether it was fair for him to take his own personal fortune and apply it broadly to an entire group of people. Watch the video below, courtesy of CNN: Cain: ‘If you don’t have a job and you’re not rich, blame yourself’ By Andrew JonesWednesday, October 5, 2011 14:25 EDT Mitt Romney isn’t the only Republican candidate condemning Occupy Wall Street. In an interview posted Wednesday morning by The Wall Street Journal, Herman Cain shared some harsh sentiments on the movement, labeling it, “orchestrated to distract from the failed policies of the Obama administration.” Cain then targeted the protesters’ own economic conditions. “Don’t blame Wall Street, don’t blame the big banks,” Cain said. “If you don’t have a job and you’re not rich, blame yourself! When asked by host Alan Murray if he thought the banks had any responsibility for the nation’s current economical climate, Cain replied, “They did having something to do with the crisis in 2008, but we’re not in 2008, we’re in 2011!”

That statement seems odd, considering the comments made by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke during Tuesday’s meeting of the Joint Economic Committee. Andrew Jones. Herman Cain's Chilean Model, Explained. For the second consecutive Republican president debate, pizza mogul and talk radio host Herman Cain has suggested the "Chilean Model" as a way to fix Social Security.

Never mind that it's Medicare, not Social Security, whose runaway costs pose a long-term threat to the nation's fiscal health—what the heck is the Chilean Model? And do we want it? As it happens, we've been down this path before. It was 2005, and then-President Bush was floating a proposal to privatize Social Security—to ensure, he explained, that it would still be there for future generations.

Bush turned to the Chilean model, which itself was a product of the Chicago School of Economics, brought to South America by economist Milton Friedman. Here's how Barbara Dreyfuss explained it in a MoJo piece that year: With labor's political power in check, [former labor minister José] Piñera focused on privatizing the pension system. The full piece is worth your time. Herman Cain: Tax Poor People’s Food To Finance Massive Tax Break For The Rich.

By Amanda Peterson Beadle on October 9, 2011 at 11:20 am "Herman Cain: Tax Poor People’s Food To Finance Massive Tax Break For The Rich" The centerpiece of former pizza czar Herman Cain’s presidential campaign is his “999″ plan, which would slash taxes on the wealthy, drive up deficits to the worst point since World War II, and force low-income Americans to pay a massive nine times their current tax rate. In an interview this morning with CNN’s Candy Crowley, Cain even said food and clothing would not be exempt from the 9 percent national sales tax he would put in place if elected president. Indeed, he said it would be “fair” for a poor person to pay as much in sales taxes as Crowley does: CROWLEY: Is there any exception, as you see it, in this consumption tax? Watch it: Because he says his plan would lower the income tax for some Americans — and, by his calculations, leave people with more money to spend — Cain seems to think his plan would leave low-income Americans with more money.
