i dont watch subs too often, im a dub lover due to multitasking and not having time to read the subs. heck, i dont even watch sports related things or like them. however, i heard enough good things about this anime and i can say that it certainly lives up to what everyone says about it. character development is good. every character's history is not too vague to the point where you're left completely clueless. the show gives just enough to leave you wanting more, which is what carries a show so far. it has a lot of breath-holding cliffhangers at the end of each episode, prompting the viewer to want to watch the next one. animation is recent, so that's a plus in my book. even though it's very sports related, i would still recommend this show to anyone. it's definitely won me over.
