Oculus Rift Game Center. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory for PC Reviews. Adrian Chmielarz's Blog - The Secret of Immersive Game Worlds. The following blog post, unless otherwise noted, was written by a member of Gamasutra’s community. The thoughts and opinions expressed are those of the writer and not Gamasutra or its parent company. Also published on The Astronauts blog. In games that are all about immersion and believability of their worlds, what should we focus on during the creation of these worlds? Let’s start with a disclaimer: what I write about below is merely a hypothesis. I do believe this is the right way to approach the problem, and I have researched this a lot – but still, it’s not exactly a proven thing. Here’s the rule I propose: The convincing, immersive game world needs to be indifferent to the player and the player needs to feel like an intruder. Take a look at this bit from Call of Duty: Ghosts: It’s all very spectacular, very pretty, and very ineffective in building a convincing world.

Guilty as charged, here is Bulletstorm: Or this one from F.E.A.R. 2: One more? Thomas Was Alone for PC Reviews. Painkiller (video game) Gameplay screenshot, Windows demo The game revolves around a young man named Daniel Garner (Cam Clarke), who is happily married to his wife Catherine (Vanessa Marshall). At the start of the game, Daniel is about to take Catherine out for a birthday meal. As they drive towards their destination at high speed, in the pouring rain, Daniel takes his eyes off the road to look at his wife and while his attention is diverted, he ploughs their car into a truck.

Both of them are killed instantly in the crash. While Catherine manages to make it to Heaven and lives in harmony, Daniel is trapped in Purgatory. One day an angel called Samael (John Cygan) tells him that in order to receive purification, he has to kill four of Lucifer's generals in order to prevent a war between Heaven and Hell. Lucifer has been secretly organizing a massive army that could overwhelm Heaven, taking over Purgatory in the process. Samael appears, congratulating Daniel for his success and informs him his task is done. No More Heroes (video game) A port of the game called No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with additional content in Japan.[4] Unlike the original, the international version of the game was published by Konami, and currently only the PlayStation 3 version of the game has been localized in Europe and North America.[5] The International PS3 version is uncensored like the Japanese Xbox 360 version.

Throughout the game, the player controls the character Travis Touchdown. The game has a free roaming world,[6] allowing Travis to move around on foot or on his modified scooter, the "Schpeltiger".[7] Gameplay is open-ended, with the condition that the player must kill the top ten assassins to make the storyline progress. There are numerous part time job side quests to earn money which can be spent on weapons, training sessions, clothes and video tapes. Money is also required to compete in a Ranking fight. Above Travis in the UAA are ten other assassins. Viewtiful Joe. Viewtiful Joe (ビューティフル ジョー, Byūtifuru Jō?)

Is a side scrolling beat 'em up video game developed by Team Viewtiful for the GameCube. It was originally released in 2003 as a part of the Capcom Five under director Hideki Kamiya and producer Atsushi Inaba. The game was later ported to the PlayStation 2 by the same design team under the name Clover Studio, subtitled Aratanaru Kibō (新たなる希望? , lit. "A New Hope") in Japan. The game's story concerns Joe, an avid movie-goer whose girlfriend Silvia is kidnapped during a film starring Joe's favorite superhero, Captain Blue. Gameplay[edit] The Mach Speed VFX Power allows Viewtiful Joe to attack multiple enemies on screen at once. Plot[edit] Viewtiful Joe is divided into seven stages, or "episodes", interspersed with storyline cutscenes and bookended by an opening and ending cinematic. Finding Silvia atop the control room of a space station, Joe discovers that Captain Blue has been behind the plot the entire time.

Development[edit] Reception[edit] Elite (video game) Elite was one of the first home computer games to use wire-frame 3D graphics with hidden line removal. Another novelty was the inclusion of The Dark Wheel, a novella by Robert Holdstock which influenced new players with insight into the moral and legal codes to which they might aspire. When the developers met at Jesus College, Cambridge, Bell was already working on a game for Acornsoft called Freefall. Braben had started writing a game called Fighter, but he had not yet completed it. The two projects were sufficiently similar that Braben and Bell compared notes, and after seeing Star Raiders on the Atari 800 they decided to collaborate to produce what eventually became Elite.

The project was initially offered to Thorn EMI, with whom Braben already had a contract, but it was rejected. The developers went to Acornsoft instead, and Acornsoft's managing director David Johnson-Davies agreed to publish it. The BBC Micro version of Elite, showing the player approaching a Coriolis space station. Conker's Bad Fur Day. Saints Row. Like other open world games, Saints Row allows players to freely roam the play space and engage in missions at their leisure. Missions are unlocked by trading in "Respect" points, currency earned by completing mini-games, and are played through three story arcs each with the objective of overthrowing a rival gang. Saints Row is set in the fictional city Stilwater, modeled on Chicago and Detroit. The player character becomes inadvertently involved in a gunfight between the three gangs fighting for control of Stilwater; Los Carnales, the Vice Kings, and the Westside Rollerz.

He joins forces with the 3rd Street Saints gang, based out of the Saint's Row district, and works with the Saints to free Stilwater from gang control. Gameplay[edit] Bar the introductory and epilogue mission sequences, missions in Saints Row are divided between three linear story arcs which can be progressed through simultaneously or one by one, each with the objective of extinguishing a rival gang. Plot[edit] Wygląda na to, że rok 2014 będzie świetny dla polskich gier. Do tej pory za najlepszy rok w historii polskich gier uchodził 2011. Wówczas CD Projekt RED zachwycił świat za sprawą Wiedźmina 2, Techland wypuścił Dead Island, 11 bit Studios zapoczątkowało podbój rynku z ciepło przyjętą strategią Anomaly: Warzone Earth, a People Can Fly wniosło sporo świeżości do gatunku strzelanin za sprawą Bulletstorma.

Killer7. Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords is a game developed by Australian company Infinite Interactive and published by D3 Publisher. The game combines role-playing with strategy and puzzle elements.

It uses a competitive Bejeweled-style playfield to simulate combat and other activities common to role-playing games. On 16 November 2007, at Game Connect, a conference for Australian game developers, lead designer Steve Fawkner announced that Infinite Interactive is working on a free, web-based game that will tie-in with Puzzle Quest and the developer's future titles.[12] In a D3 Publisher press release regarding the hiring of Adam Roberts as VP of Europe, a sequel was announced for Puzzle Quest with a 2008 release date.[13] At the 2008 Game Developers Conference, the sequel became publicly known as Puzzle Quest: Galactrix.[14] Gameplay[edit] The game uses a simple map, and as players accept quests, new towns, cities, and other points of interest appear as available destinations.
