STRATUS is a network of emerging and early career University of Auckland researchers, formally launched in April 2008. STRATUS was formed by a group of researchers at The University of Auckland who felt the need for a formal career support system and unified voice for emerging scientists in order to help encourage positive change by the University and Government, and to come up with new, innovative solutions to help strengthen the New Zealand science system.
The European Commission (EC) has created a pilot industrial-PhD programme to unite academia and businesses. The European Industrial Doctorates scheme will have 20 million (US$28 million) to fund about 100 researchers until 2013, and aims to teach scientists how to combine scientific excellence with business skills. Participating PhD students at partner universities will spend at least half their time at a company in a different European Union (EU) state or associated country. Partner businesses will pay some expenses.
The MacDiarmid Institute brings together and equips New Zealand’s leading researchers in nanotechnology and materials science. Our culture of collaboration and excellence enables scientists to work together across disciplines at the highest level, and remain connected internationally. We partner with New Zealand businesses to take our innovations through to export markets in areas as diverse as health, electronics, food and fashion. The Institute also inspires and trains young researchers and engages the public with science-centred events. Our Investigators work throughout New Zealand, while the Institute is hosted by Victoria University of Wellington.
MESA is committed to the development of MacDiarmid Institute students and postdocs through exposure to the Institute’s skills, knowledge and ideas. We work to foster young New Zealand scientists by encouraging interdisciplinary approaches and establishing new networks within the institute and the broader community. Who Is Included In MESA? Any student or postdoc whose supervisor is MacDiarmid Institute investigator, at either principal (PI) or associate (AI) levels. A full list of investigators can be found here .
