DSNP: Distributed Social Networking Protocol

DSNP is a protocol for distributed social networking. It allows everyone to collaborate to create one social network that is decentralized, like the Internet itself. It is an open technology that supports private communications, in a manner that users of modern social networks have come to expect. DSNP aims to cover any use case that can be described as first creating a profile for yourself, establishing connections to people you know, then broadcasting private information to those people. http://onesocialweb.org/ The OneSocialWeb project team is not currently driving active development of the source code. But we continue our work on specifications and standards to make the dream of a world where all social networks are connected and work together in a way similar to email a reality. This project aimed at defining a language to bridge these networks and make it easy for social networks to join a bigger social web.

Lorea

http://buddycloud.com/ buddycloud is designed as a completely new way to share online: your buddycloud channel connects you to the world's realtime conversation. Follow topic channels and plug into a community of experts. Create your own topic channels, and share them with the world - or make it private and choose who can view it.

buddycloud channels: open federated social networking

A distributed social network is an Internet social network service that is decentralized and distributed across different providers. The emphasis of the distribution is on portability a[›] , interoperability and federation capability. It contrasts with social network aggregation services, which are used to manage accounts and activities across multiple discrete social networks.

The Appleseed Project - Open Source Social Networking

Open source social networking alternatives have no shortage of passion and enthusiasm. There is an overwhelming interest in building open alternatives to the walled gardens we currently inhabit, and a strong belief in the necessity and superiority of freedom and decentralization over corporate, centralized control. And yet a viable alternative has not emerged. http://opensource.appleseedproject.org/
