Where on Earth are You? » phpmaster
Because this site has a truly global audience, you the reader could be anywhere in the world. Were I to ask you where on Earth you are, you might volunteer the name of a city, a state, or perhaps just the country you’re in. The answer might be ambiguous – is that Paris, France or Paris, Texas? Modern geolocation applications use latitude and longitude to identify the location of people and of places to within a few meters, but it’s highly unlikely you’ll answered the question with those. Geolocation – that is, obtaining your location using GPS, Wi-Fi triangulation, or perhaps using your IP address – is all very well and good, but sometimes you just need to ask someone where they are. The challenge then is to do two things: work out what place you could be talking about, disambiguate if necessary, and then identify exactly where on Earth that is.To use native WebSockets in Firefox, the prefixed MozWebSocket should be used. However, Firefox 11 will support the IETF standard without the prefix. As a word of caution, the protocol backing the Web Socket API has become an IETF standard , but Safari has not yet implemented the (secure) new version. It is recommended forcing an alternative on Safari or disabling WebSockets on Safari for now. To make websockets easier to use there are multiple server-side framework solutions. These frameworks generally provide fallback transports (HTTP long polling, HTTP streaming, ajax polling) to support non-websocket browsers.

I felt Perch offered enough wiggle-room to grow and mature with the site. Also, apart from any technical considerations, something that often gets overlooked yet factored heavily into my buying decision was the technical support from Rachel and Drew which has always been fast, friendly and thorough, both pre-sale and after.

In the beginning as designers, there was a time where we all had to get our feet wet. We decided that we wanted to make our maiden voyage into the unknown, and we all had that similar experience of digging our toes in the sand and taking that first step. Like that of a captain of a ship, the life of a designer can be a very strange, scary, and most times a very rewarding one, and just like that captain, we are in complete control of our own ship, of our own destiny, no matter how treacherous the waters are that lie ahead. To take from the movie Count of Monte Cristo, we are reminded that: “life is a storm, you’ll bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next.PhotoSwipe
PhotoSwipe is a self contained JavaScript library that can be easily integrated into your mobile websites. It is heavily optimized for mobile webkit browsers. However, if you need wider desktop browser support or you are using jQuery Mobile, PhotoSwipe comes packaged with a jQuery implementation as well. backButtonHideEnabled: This will hide the gallery when the user hits the back button. This open-source application maps the information that your iPhone is recording about your movements. It doesn't record anything itself, it only displays files that are already hidden on your computer. The file exists on PCs too, but we haven't written a version of the application that runs on Windows ourselves. If you do a web search, you'll now find versions that other people have created, but while we have no reason to believe they contain any malicious code, we haven't inspected and verified any of them ourselves. Since we can't vouch for them we don't feel capable of recommending one in particular. If you run it on an OS X machine that you’ve been syncing with an iPhone or an iPad with cellular plan, it will scan through the backup files that are automatically made, looking for the hidden file containing your location.

How Facebook Ships Code « FrameThink – Frameworks for Thinking People
Original post below: I’m fascinated by the way Facebook operates. It’s a very unique environment, not easily replicated (nor would their system work for all companies, even if they tried). These are notes gathered from talking with many friends at Facebook about how the company develops and releases software. Seems like others are also interested in Facebook… The company’s developer-driven culture is coming under greater public scrutiny and other companies are grappling with if/how to implement developer-driven culture .made@gloria!

Nowadays the debate about HTML5 vs. Flash became really popular and a lot of misinformation is going on… My intention with this post is NOT to say that one technology is better than another, specially since I don’t believe that one is better than another but that they have different purposes , my idea is to show that there is a bunch of things that those communities can learn from each other… Please read the whole post before commenting. My intention is not to start a flame-war. – I’m an HTML/JS/CSS developer that happens to know Flash/AS3 too, not the opposite…This article explains the base concepts and functionality of the com.bigspaceship.display package which is part of the Big Spaceship actionscript package we recently made available on github . The name was chosen on the basis of the flash.display package and therefore contains core classes that Big Spaceship uses to build visual displays. It describes Big Spaceships standardized way of connecting library assets and animated timelines with coded functionality.
