EvoluteTools

"We have experienced 'EvoluteTools' as the most advanced tools for the panelization of freeform surfaces and the downstream processing of meshes towards workshop design. http://www.evolute.at/software/evolutetools-for-rhino.html
http://freeformfever.blogspot.com/ Here are some examples i am currently preparing for a set of lectures on Architectural Geometry to be held at TU Vienna starting in about two weeks. Since the main focus will lie on ruled surfaces, which are especially interesting for architectural applications when it comes to actually building a freeform design, these definitions will generate models based on these special surfaces. First, we have a rather simple, but nevertheless very nice application.

Tutorials - Grasshopper

Andy Payne , LIFT architects , has published a 150-page manual to help people get a basic understanding of Grasshopper. You can download the pdf and the source files from his website Zubin M Khabazi , a graduate from EmTech, Architectural Association (AA), London, has published an on-line book of his design experiments in architecture and related fields in geometry. http://www.grasshopper3d.com/page/tutorials-1

There is nothing particularly new about Evolutionary Solvers or Genetic Algorithms. The first references to this field of computation stem from the early 60's when Lawrence J. Fogel published the landmark paper "On the Organization of Intellect" which sparked the first endeavours into evolutionary computing.

There have been some fairly heated posts and discussions in the blogs recently on the subject of some patents relating to architectural geometry held by Evolute, Helmut Pottmann and RFR, about the commercialisation of academic research, and particularly how all this relates to what I do in Kangaroo, and what people can legally use Kangaroo for.
