Earlier this week we reported that it’s now possible to run Plex on non-jailbroken Apple TV 2 and Apple TV 3, as group of devs (Baa, roidy and f00b4r) has released a PlexConnect, a little hack that allows a fully-functional Plex client on non-jailbroken ATV2 and ATV3. And here is a tutorial on how to get it all working using a Mac: (via PlexConnect wiki) Note: This guide can also be used with firmwares prior to 5.2 and those with Apple TVs on wireless connections, just use some common sense for changing the DNS on the ATV and leave the subnet mask and router settings as they are (the screens are slightly different for this bit only). Ensure that your PlexConnect machine always has the same IP address In order for PlexConnect to work the Apple TV has to have its DNS server changed to that of the ATV. The Best Way to Backup Your Mac and MacBook ProMobile Meandering I’m no stranger to data loss. Over the past several years I’ve experienced catastrophic data loss in servers, and about seven years ago my home computer’s hard drive crashed. I didn’t have a backup of the disk, which forced me to use DriveSavers to recover most of my data. Like most people, I’m lazy about backing up my data. Automated Backups for Mac When Apple released Time Machine, they introduced a dead simple way to backup your Mac. My solution was to get a Time Capsule from Apple. Automated “Cloud” Computing Backups Unfortunately, relying on one backup is not the best backup plan. Just like Time Capsule and Time Machine, these services can be set up to run automatically in the background. Backblaze I’ve tried several cloud computing backup services on OS X, including Mozy, but Backblaze was the service that worked the best, and was also the most unobtrusive. The price is incredibly cheap. Dropbox Another cloud computing service I use is Dropbox. The Best Way to Backup Your Mac and MacBook ProMobile Meandering

Channel will be instrumental in helping enterprises put smart wearables to good use Send to Kindle Solution providers looking to stay ahead of the curve might want to take a closer look at a market that has consumers riveted right now: wearables. The latest 411 from Juniper Research: Global retail revenue from smart wearable devices - glasses, clothing, wristbands, watches - will reach $53.2 billion in 2019, up from $4.5 billion last year. One of the latest studies gauging the perception of wearables in the business arena was conducted by an independent research firm for Robert Half Technology, a staffing company based in California. Want to better separate the apps within your Dock? Try adding a space to break them up. OS X Yosemite's Dock gives you a handy way of launching applications that you use the most frequently with a single click. To organize them, you can click and drag them around however you like. What you can't do, at least not directly from within the Dock's preferences, is divide up the apps using an easy visual separator. Fortunately, there's a workaround — if you're comfortable using the Terminal command line. I've set up spaces to separate the apps I use: My Internet apps are all grouped together, as are my writing tools and creative apps, all with spaces in-between them. Spaces break up the apps I use visually by function and makes it easier for me to locate them at a glance. Open Terminal.Type defaults write persistent-apps -array-add '{"tile-type"="spacer-tile";}'; killall Dock and press return. That'll create a single space in your Dock. Murus is a front end for the OS X built-in PF packet filter. It’s main purpose is to speed up network firewall configuration and testing, using a simple interface. Filtering rules and networking options can be set dragging and dropping icons, changing their order, and selecting check boxes. There is no need to learn code syntax or to type shell commands. Everything is managed by visual elements like buttons, collections, lists, icons, leds. This manual describes Murus Pro features. OS X is one of the most secure computer operating systems today. Currently OS X 10.10 and OS X 10.11 feature two firewalls: ALF: application level firewall, can be easily configured using System Preferences Security panel. PF: network firewall, can be configured using the shell Terminal or using a third party front end, like Murus. Both firewalls are disabled by default on a newly installed OS X system. Both PF and ALF firewalls can be activated simultaneously, and they will work together. Managed Services Online Murus Manual Online Murus Manual
Apple Pie Tutorial | SugaryWinzy The scent of apple pie baking in the oven is like no other. It is my family’s favorite. Even if I were to bake a million and one fabulous cakes, and then ask them what they would like me to bake next, the answer would always be apple pie. Furthermore, you don’t need anything fancy to bake a pie. A mere six ingredients are all that’s needed for the apple pie filling. I like to slice and dice the peeled apples as thinly as possible. Add to the apples one cup dark brown sugar, two tablespoons all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg and 1/8 teaspoon salt. After mixing, your apple pie filling will look like this. Here you have the ingredients for a basic pie crust that will yield two baked pie shells or one filled double-crust pie. Now mix ¾ teaspoon salt with 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour. After 2 or 3 minutes of mixing, the mixture will look like this. Add water a tablespoon at a time. Here you see the pastry almost getting to the stage where it can form a nice ball. Notes
Apple Pie For a Crowd Apple Pie For a Crowd A couple of months ago my daughter had her bridging ceremony, moving from Daisies to Brownies in Girl Scouts. Personally, I was in Camp Fire as a kid and hadn't experienced this ceremony before- very neat! My go-to pie recipe (with a few seasoning changes) is Apple Pie by Grandma Ople from always a winner! It's absolutely delightful, every time. It wasn't quite right for this setting, though- I wanted a bar. Or at least something that was easy to transport and serve to a crowd. The crust is easy to make-the recipe calls for rolling it out, but I found it actually had the perfect consistency to just pat down into the pan like you would with a graham cracker crust. The filling is pretty straightforward, though I did sub a little brown sugar and add nutmeg and clove. All in all this recipe is definitely a winner, and one I'll be making again. 1 1/2 C all-purpose flour 1 1/2 Tbsp white sugar 1/2 C shortening 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking powder 2 egg yolks, beaten 4 Tbsp water 1. 2.

Riverside, California—The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and 46 technology industry experts, including inventors of modern cryptography, told a federal court today that forcing Apple to write and sign computer code disabling crucial iPhone security features that protect millions of users violates the company’s free speech rights. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) should not be allowed to, in effect, stand over the shoulders of Apple programmers and force them to create and sign off on code that would decimate the iPhone’s security, EFF said. The signed code would send a clear message that it’s OK to undermine encryption that users rely on—a view the government endorses but Apple fiercely opposes. EFF made its arguments in a friend-of-the-court brief filed today in U.S. The phone at issue was used by a suspect in December’s San Bernardino mass shooting who was killed after the attack.
