Programmes. The APGRD runs a number of innovative programmes ranging from promoting new writing and performances (The Onassis Programme for the Performance of Ancient Greek Drama), training students in communicating their research to a wider public (the AHRC-funded programme, 'Communicating Ancient Greece and Rome'), investigating the performance of epic from antiquity to the modern day, and recording oral histories with those involved in the performance of ancient plays from the Second World War onwards, in schools and universities and in the professional theatre.

APGRD Programmes Ars Longa Prize 2015: Arthur Miller and the Greeks Essays are invited on the theme of ‘Arthur Miller and the Greeks’. The best essay will receive a prize of £250 and there will be a runner up award of £100. This year’s judges will be Christopher Bigsby, Kirsten Shepherd-Barr, and Fiona Macintosh. Please find the Essay Titles and Guidelines for 2015-16 here. Please also find attached the Cover Sheet to be submitted with the essay. The competition is open to all students currently studying in Year 12 (or equivalent) anywhere in the UK, whether or not they have studied the ancient world before. The essay titles are chosen to take account of the research expertise at St. The deadline for all entries will be 4pm on Thursday 25th February 2016. Due to the large number of entries, we will not be able to offer feedback on individual essays; instead tutors produce a report which reflects on the previous year's competition. Each competition has a first prize of £500, a second prize of £300, and a third prize of £200. The prize-giving will take place in Cambridge on Saturday 27th June 2015. All prizes are open exclusively to girls currently in Year 12 (Lower Sixth), and we welcome entries from interested students studying any combination of subjects. Information on the 2014-15 competition This competition is for Year 12 (or equivalent) students and is aimed at anyone with interests in the Humanities.

Girton College - Humanities Writing Competition

It is based on six objects from the College's small antiquities museum. Named after a Girton student, the Lawrence Room contains Anglo-Saxon finds from the College grounds, Egyptian material including the rare portrait mummy 'Hermione', and Mediterranean material from the Classical and pre-Classical worlds. This competition is an opportunity for research and writing beyond the curriculum using one or more of the six objects as your focus.

Essays or creative responses (such as dramatic monologues or short stories) are equally welcome. Click here to see pictures and descriptions of the six objects for 2014-15. The Christopher Tower Poetry Competition, the UK’s most valuable prize for young poets, opened for entries on National Poetry Day, and this year students between 16-18 years of age are challenged to write a poem on the theme of ‘Cells’.

Established in 2000, the Tower Prizes are recognised as among the most prestigious literary awards for this age group. The first prize is £3,000, with £1,000 and £500 going to the second and third prize-winners. In addition to individual prizes, the students’ schools and colleges also receive cash prizes of £150 and the three prizewinners are eligible for a place on the Tower Poetry Summer School. Longlisted entrants’ poems are published on the Tower Poetry website. The entries will be judged this year by poets Ian McMillan, Helen Mort and Peter McDonald. The Christopher Tower Poetry Prizes were launched following a bequest to Christ Church which provides for the promotion of the art of writing poetry in English.

The Computer Science competition has attracted entries of an impressive standard. Last year's winners were of such a high standard that it was hard to sort the top quartile of entries. So this year we have set an essay competition that might require a little more research by the entrants. Please note: Material submitted for this competition will NOT be used for admissions-related purposes. The judges will be two or three recent graduates in Computer Science from Corpus. For over a decade Corpus Christi College has run subject-based essay competitions for students in the lower sixth or equivalent.

Year 12 Essay Competition

The purpose of these competitions is: To give students the chance to think and write about challenging questions in a subject that they are interested in. All of our essay questions are set and assessed by Cambridge Fellows and academics.To encourage academically able students from all backgrounds to think about applying to Cambridge university.To recognize the achievement and scholarship of the most distinguished entries through prizes and meetings with our Fellows.

All winners, runners-up and highly commended entries will be invited to a special prize ceremony at the College on April 18 2015.
