Dragonfly BSD

A technical introduction: The ultimate goal of the DragonFly project at its inception was to provide native clustering support in the kernel. This type of functionality requires a sophisticated cache management framework for filesystem namespaces, file spaces and VM spaces. These and other features eventually culminate in the ability to allow heavily interactive programs to run across multiple machines with cache coherency fully guaranteed in all respects. This also requires being able to divide resources, including the cpu by way of a controlled VM context, for safe assignment to potentially unsecured third-party clusters over the internet. This original design direction, although no longer the primary goal of the DragonFly BSD project, has influenced many of the design decisions made in the intervening years.

Only two remote holes in the default install, in a heck of a long time! The OpenBSD project produces a FREE , multi-platform 4.4BSD-based UNIX-like operating system. Our efforts emphasize portability, standardization, correctness, proactive security and integrated cryptography . OpenBSD is developed entirely by volunteers. The project pays for the development environment and developer events by selling CDs through a collection of stores and by accepting donations from organizations and individuals. These finances ensure that OpenBSD will continue to exist, and will remain free for everyone to use and reuse as they see fit. http://www.openbsd.org/

As some of our readers might have noticed, this is a temporary website for the GhostBSD project. We are currently working on a more permanent solution and figured it is a good time to report on the progress and goals. Integration of the site with the forums – the phpbb will be migrated to drupal advanced forums. http://blog.ghostbsd.org/

m0n0wall

m0n0wall is a project aimed at creating a complete, embedded firewall software package that, when used together with an embedded PC, provides all the important features of commercial firewall boxes (including ease of use) at a fraction of the price (free software). m0n0wall is based on a bare-bones version of FreeBSD , along with a web server, PHP and a few other utilities. The entire system configuration is stored in one single XML text file to keep things transparent. http://m0n0.ch/wall/index.php
