The Five Great Lessons from Montessori for Everyone

These lessons are bold, exciting, and are designed to awaken a child's imagination and curiosity. The child should be struck with the wonder of creation, thrilled with new ideas, and awed by the inventiveness and innovation that is part of the human spirit. The Five Great Lessons are traditionally presented in lower elementary (grades 1-3), and are presented every year so that children see them more than one time. Unlike the 3-6 environment, where the child is introduced first to "small" ideas that gradually widen into larger concepts, the elementary child is introduced right away to large concepts - the largest of all being the beginning of the universe. Then they can be shown how all the smaller ideas fit into the larger framework. Traditionally, there are Five Great Lessons that are used to paint a broad picture before moving to more specific study. It is nearly impossible for the human mind to comprehend the amount of time that it has taken for the Earth to develop to its present state, yet we try to imagine each stage of its unfolding and the time that passed during each phase of development. The Clock of Eras uses the analogy of a circular clock to represent the development of our planet in geologic time. One can see at a glance the relative time lengths of each major geologic era. So how does this Clock work? The Five Great Lessons from Montessori for Everyone. The Montessori Great Lesson Page. Great Lessons Resources. I wanted something that would give me an outline of topics to cover so we that we wouldn't be stuck learning about Ancient Egypt for four years straight (which is probably what would happen if I followed my boys interests!). I wanted something that would give my children the "big picture" of all the myriad topics of study that exist.
