Casa BA by BAK arquitectos in Buenos Aires, Argentina. ‘…The Proposal The study always faces each new project as an opportunity of research in the theory and practice of architecture. In this occasion, as the resolution of the house security was so important, it seemed interesting to see to where this strong condition could be taken as a generator of the project. How far the formalization was dependent on the solution of the problem, and how far this dependence could strain without affecting the good aesthetic result, always operating within the standard costs for a house. Reverse an alleged negative condition specific of this assignment and turn it into a solutions search engine that won’t waste the potential that this problem entails, was a decision that led to the designers to propose a house which extends up to the party walls to have only two vulnerable fronts.

In this way, the two facades of nearly 14 m long became essential elements of this project. House In Kaimakli / Yiorgos Hadjichristou Architects. Architects: Yiorgos Hadjichristou Architects Location: Kaimakli, Nicosia, Cyprus House owners: Kalli Christoforou, Yiorgos Hadjichristou Colaborators: Petros Konstantinou, Veronika Antoniou Photographs: Christos Papantoniou, Yiorgos Kordakis The refurbishment and the extension of the traditional house in Kaimakli is based on the main strategies of the bioclimatic approach, and especially on conditions that were developed through tradition : all the spaces enjoy south orientation with various ways of shading (including movable vegetation panel) and assure generous cross air ventilation.

The vegetation and the reinforcement of the breezes through it, endorse the creation of a microclimate and microcosmos of the house. The above conditions, combined with the aim for preservation of the traditional atmosphere of the house, generated the idea of the fluidity of the new spaces: all the new annexes are organized around two courtyards and consist of movable partitions.

Mebius / Atelier Tekuto. The site of the Mebius house is located ten minutes away from Kamakura. To the West it is surrounded by a mountain range. To the South and East are an Urbanization Control Area. This restricts all future building in those areas. Thus the promise of unspoiled surrounding greenery made for a highly appealing site. Architect: Atelier Tekuto Location: Kamakura, Japan Photographs: Toshihiro Sobajima “ A space where one can feel nature and a living space suited to a couple with a pet rabbit .“ These were Atelier Tekuto clients’ key words, and with that Atelier Tekuto proceeded to design the Mebius house. Atelier Tekuto’s aim was to provide a place where one had a multiplicity of spatial choice depending on the seasons, the different time of day, the particular activity, or what mood one is in. House in Leiria | Aires Mateus & Associates | Slide show. House In Leiria / Aires Mateus. Architects: Manuel Aires Mateus Location: Leiria, Portugal Collaborator: Humberto Fonseca, Luísa Sol, Tiago Santos Project year: 2008 – 2010 Photographs: FG+SG – Fernando Guerra, Sergio Guerra The site is on the outskirts of Leiria, in a high position overlooking the city.

The functions are banal: a house divided in private area with bedrooms, and social area with living-rooms. The private areas are at street level under the plot, around a central courtyard with rooms opening to private patios in a intimate environment. The living rooms are around a void, that collects light from above and gazes the castle at the city centre. The house is a recognizable archetype emptied of its centre by the light designed by a three heighted courtyard that opens horizontally at the garden level. The bedroom courtyards, revealed in the garden, relate with this archetypal object providing different readings on its scale. . © FG+SG – Fernando Guerra, Sergio Guerra plan 01 plan 02 plan 03 section 01 section 02. A House in Leiria, Portugal. Architect: Aires Mateus & Associates Photographs by: SG+FG The Lisbon-based brothers Manuel and Francisco Aires Mateus push their residential designs out of the realm of the ordinary toward the surreal and dreamlike.

In one project, they arranged the living room furniture of a beach house on a floor of deep sand. In another, a renovated winery, they suspended the volumes of the bedrooms over the living space like geometric stalactites. And in this project for a young family outside the small city of Leiria, they created the perfect archetypal form of a house, straight out of a Monopoly game box or a fairy tale. An apparently solid volume wrapped completely in white plaster — pitched roof and all — sits on the green plinth of an extended lawn, sharply profiled under the Portuguese sun. But the visitor soon discovers that the actual living quarters spill out from this milk-carton house on all sides, while the interior opens to the light and air. Gross square footage: 3,200 sq. ft.
