Chakras are very important in Yoga, as well as other meditation practices. Chakras are points of swirling subtle energy within the body, and they are also entryways to higher vibrational planes; the astral, ethereal, mental and causal bodies may be accessed through these chakra points. The wisdom within in this chakra includes your connecting cord to the Divine, your life’s purpose, and connection to your past lives. An imbalance in the Crown might manifest as loss of meaning or identity, mental instability, and a lack of purpose.

Jois, from India, was widely considered to be the modern founder of the ashtanga branch of yoga and credited with popularising it in the West. His many thousands of students include the pop musicians Sting and Madonna, and the actress Gwyneth Paltrow. Ashtanga yoga is based on synchronising the breath through a progressive series of postures. It is the most rigorous form of yoga, and its practitioners claim it can produce positive effects on mind and body.

The theory is that it produces intense internal heat, which purifies the muscles and organs, expelling unwanted toxins as well as releasing beneficial hormones and minerals which can nourish the body when the sweat is absorbed back into the skin. K. S. Iyengar, or Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar (born 14 December 1918), is the founder of Iyengar Yoga and is considered one of the foremost yoga teachers in the world.[1][2] He has written many books on yoga practice and philosophy including Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama, and Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Iyengar yoga classes are offered throughout the world. Iyengar is one of the earliest students of Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, who is often referred to as "the father of modern yoga He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1991, the Padma Bhushan in 2002 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2014.[5][6] In 2004, Iyengar was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine.[7][8] Early years[edit] Education in yoga[edit] Teaching career[edit] With the encouragement of Krishnamacharya, Iyengar, aged 18,[9] moved to Pune in 1937 to teach yoga.
