Braided Spaghetti Bread » The official blog of America's favorite frozen dough. We are carb lovers at our house, so when I saw the Braided Spaghetti Bread recipe in the Rhodes Home Baked Family Favorites with frozen dough cookbook I knew we would love it. This is a really simple recipe; it just takes a little planning for thawing the dough. It will take 2-3 hours for the bread loaf to thaw to room temperature or 1-2 hours for the rolls to thaw to room temperature.
You will need: 1 Loaf Rhodes Bread Dough or 12 Rhodes Dinner Rolls, thawed to room temperature6 oz spaghetti, cooked 1 cup thick spaghetti sauce 8 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into 1/2 –inch cubes 1 egg white Parmesan cheese Parsley flakes Spray counter lightly with non-stick cooking spray (or use parchment paper). Roll loaf or combined dinner rolls into a 12x16-inch rectangle. Cook spaghetti according to package instructions. Remove wrap from dough. Make cuts 1 ½-inches apart on long sides of dough to within ½-inch of filling. Begin braid by folding top and bottom strips toward filling. This was fantastic! Strawberry Salad. Nothing crazy here today, just a really basic yet delicious strawberry salad.
I'm sure you've all pretty much had this salad in one form or another, and this is the way we make it. Mandi really wanted to post this one because it is her favorite salad. The strawberries were really fresh and delicious and the pictures came out great so here it is. We make this a few different ways. Sometimes Mandi lets the strawberries macerate in the Balsamic for an hour or so to get them all crazy. Today we went for the emulsion route. Here you can see some shallots and a little garlic ready to go in the blender macerate [MAS-uh-rayt] to soak a food (usually fruit) in a liquid in order to infuse it with the liquid's flavor. Emulsion [ih-MUHL-shuhn] A mixture of one liquid with another with which it cannot normally combine smoothly -- oil and water being the classic example.
Definitions from epicurious food dictionary We made some real nice croutons out of whole grain bread. Coating in oil before the oven. Black Bean Avocado Bowl. I wasn't sure what to call this really... Quinoa salad? Mexicany rice bowlish thing? I settled on Black bean avocado bowl. It came about when Mandi and I were brainstorming about quick easy healthy weeknight meals we could completely make AND eat in a half hour and run after. This would actually be great as an alternative to pasta salad at a BBQ and would also travel really well, but we just had it as a quick and healthy weeknight dinner. Fresh squeezed lime juice, a dot of honey, salt, and cumin. Wisk in some olive oil to make an emulsion. Cook the quinoa to box instructions, and add some butter and salt and pepper. Add rinsed black beans to lime vinaigrette. Left to right - scallions, tomatoes, bell pepper, avocado.
As much as I like skittles, I would much rather taste THIS rainbow. Everybody in Cotija cheese. In with the quinoa. Adjust salt and pepper because a lot of these ingredients are somewhat bland on their own and need salt to really pop. In large bowl wisk: Add everything else. Thai Tuna Salad. When I am eating healthy, tuna is a go-to lunch for me. Most tuna salad is pretty unhealthy because of the large amount of mayo, but I like to find new creative mixins. Normally I use avocado, but this time I tried to Thai it up with some coconut milk, sriracha, fish sauce, and lime juice. It came out awesome and I'm sure it will be a staple for me in the next few months. There is a chinese place next to my job. Like literally next door. It takes me 10 steps to walk there. Lunch costs 5 dollars for anything you want and it comes with crab rangoons. Tuna, cucumber, carrot, coconut milk, fish sauce, sriracha, lime juice, cilantro, scallions.
Avocado Habanero Hot Sauce. In a continuing effort to press the limits of what defines guacamole, I present to you this hot sauce. Based on the Venezuelan sauce known by the silly name "guasacaca", this condiment is loaded with avocado, habanero peppers, and red wine vinegar. There is lots of acid in the recipe, so unlike a traditional guac, it won't go brown 5 minutes after you make it. In fact, I made this on Thursday, and it's still a vibrant green today! I had it on tacos the day I made it (as pictured) but since then I've eaten it on burgers, in a salad, and on grilled chicken and skirt steak, and it has been fantastic on everything.
I love no-cook sauces. I poured it all into this jar to save in the fridge for later. Except for what I was using right away! This had a nice little burn to it, and the vinegar was perfect in this taco. Besides the sauce, It's just some chopped radish and onion, a little cheese, and some coffee braised beef, a recipe I have been working on for a burrito shop in the area. Duck Cheesesteaks. The sole reason I was inspired to cook a duck cheesesteak was because I saw shaved duck breast at H-Mart.
It's intended to be used shabu shabu style (dipped in a hot pot to cook), but all I could think of when I saw it was cheeseducks! I didn't just want your normal caramelized onions and American cheese to go with this guy, so I added a bit of orange and gruyere to the party. Segment the orange and collect the remaining juice. Cook the onions down. To me, this is the best part of any cheesesteak and should be done carefully, slowly, and with attention. The oranges in for a minute on high, then kill the heat.
Here's that beautiful shaved duck I was talking about. Sear it in batches in a separate pan. Move the cooked meat into the pan with the onions, leaving most of the fat behind. Mix the cheese right into the meat. Gahhhh. These duck cheesesteaks were completely decadent, tender, and insanely delicious. The meat had a luscious quality to it. Saute the onions in butter until very browned. Rice Avocado Salad. This past weekend I was lucky enough to be a guest judge at a fun guacamole competition. This event really got me thinking about the constraints of the term "guacamole". Obviously purists will say that all you need for a good guac is perfectly ripe avocados, some lime juice, garlic, and salt.
But where's the line? Tomatoes, onions, and cilantro are all pretty common. If you add mango is it still a guacamole? How about bananas? Anchovy? You MIGHT still be able to call it guac at this point. I boiled the rice instead of steaming it to get rid of excess starch. This is no longer guacamole. I also added a small can of tuna to this just cause I was in the mood for tuna that night. Thanks to everyone involved with the Guac-Off for having me. 2 avocados 1 lime 1 red pepper 1 clove garlic 1 Jalapeno 1/4 cup chopped cilantro 1 cup rice 1 zucchini 1 can blackbeans Squirt of sriracha optional small can of tuna Where do you guys draw your Guacamole Line? LaSaGnA TiMpAnO. I went to see tUnE-yArDs on Monday night with some friends, and as always we wanted to cook a meal that somehow related to the show we were heading to.
Sometimes this is hard to do, but other times it seems to come naturally. Finding culinary inspiration in Merrill's lyrics seemed like it would be tough, but my sister knew what she wanted to make without hesitation. "How about something layered, because of all the vocal and instrument layering in the music? " From there we worked together to come up with this deep, colorful, and multi-flavored lasagna version of a timpano. If you are using words like deep, colorful, and multi-flavored to describe something inspired by tUnE-yArDs, you already know you got it right! Start by making a lasagna crust. This is actually the hardest part of the recipe. Finally got it together. Now it's easy, just start building the layers! Alfredo sauce with some salami goes first. After 3 alfredo layers, I switched to pesto. A cheese only layer, just for fun. The Complete Guide to Workout Nutrition [Infographic]
