What's Hot in Human Origins? Ten Major Court Cases about Evolution and Creationism. Creationism and the Law. Legal challenges to anti-evolutionist policies began with the Scopes Trial of 1925, a case the evolutionists actually lost.

Creationism and the Law

Since 1968, however, U.S. courts have consistently held that "creationism" is a particular religious viewpoint and that teaching it in public schools would violate the First Amendment of the Constitution. Odd Observations about Darwin and American Education

So the American understanding of science as technology—the modern understanding that flows from Bacon, Descartes, and that Cartesian Locke—contradicts the official view of our sophisticates that Darwin teaches the whole truth about nature and who we are. For the Darwinian, our species is, in the decisive respect, just like the others. Each member of the species exists to serve the species, and our happiness comes from doing our duty to the species as social mammals—basically by pair bonding, reproducing, raising the young, and then dying (or stepping aside for our replacements as nature requires). My ultimate point in life is to successfully spread my genes. And so it’s naturally been the case that parents have found meaning by living on through their children, knowing that they continue to exist, for a while, in the grateful memories of their children.

US schools ban Darwin from class. A religious campaign to block the teaching of evolutionary biology is taking an inexorable grip on the US.

U.S. Lags World in Grasp of Genetics and Acceptance of Evolution. A comparison of peoples' views in 34 countries finds that the United States ranks near the bottom when it comes to public acceptance of evolution.

Only Turkey ranked lower. Among the factors contributing to America's low score are poor understanding of biology, especially genetics, the politicization of science and the literal interpretation of the Bible by a small but vocal group of American Christians, the researchers say. “American Protestantism is more fundamentalist than anybody except perhaps the Islamic fundamentalist, which is why Turkey and we are so close,” said study co-author Jon Miller of Michigan State University. The researchers combined data from public surveys on evolution collected from 32 European countries, the United States and Japan between 1985 and 2005. Adults in each country were asked whether they thought the statement “Human beings, as we know them, developed from earlier species of animals,” was true, false, or if they were unsure. Their defensive teeth, spikes and claws are often shown extended. As evidence of the prior existence of these kinds of creatures we have a myriad of bones found on multiple continents, footprints buried in sedimentary layers and ... legends. All over the world people remember the dangerous dragons of old. But they slowly went extinct. Men feared and hated them. Carbon-14 dating of carbon buried in the same layer with dragon bones helps to confirm that they are really only thousands of years old. Dragons and sea monsters have become mostly extinct prior to our modern era. Humans and lions live on Earth at the same time today. "Dinosaurs" AIG Section - Happened to the Dinosaurs? " Cdurham13. Scopes Trial

John Thomas Scopes and commonly referred to as the Scopes Monkey Trial, was a famous American legal case in 1925 in which a high school teacher, John Scopes, was accused of violating Tennessee's Butler Act, which made it unlawful to teach human evolution in any state-funded school.[1] The trial was deliberately staged in order to attract publicity to the small town of Dayton, Tennessee, where it was held.

Scopes was unsure whether he had ever actually taught evolution, but he purposely incriminated himself so that the case could have a defendant. Scopes was found guilty and fined $100, but the verdict was overturned on a technicality. The trial served its purpose of drawing intense national publicity, as national reporters flocked to Dayton to cover the big-name lawyers who had agreed to represent each side.
