I'm off to merry old England I'm off home for a few weeks and intend to drink a fair amount of decent tea, and beer for that matter. This fine Tea illustration is available to license.
I have clearly become a little obsessed with all things mail these days, but seriously it has been so much fun getting back into writing letters and receiving beautiful things in my mail box each week! Tonight I came home to my brand new postal kit freshly stamped and sent from Snap and Tumble and Send More Mail . It is so beautiful, it's going to be hard to use it...as i just want to look at everything all together and never mark up the pages! I can't wait to post pics.

So, over the last few months things have been busy, and the beautiful stack of mail beside my desk has been piling up. Actually it has become more of a mountain of wonderful words, and images and paper secrets. My penpals are so wonderful, and I apologize to them all while I am so behind in my own correspondence back. As mentioned in an earlier post today, Kyle and I finally finished our wedding invites and most of the organizational details which were occupying much of our free time outside of work.
As usual, I did some Chinese New Year cards for spreading my message of love to my friends. I'm not able to handle more than hundred of cards, so I decided not to open this activity to public except my family and good friends. 2012 symbolizes the most unpredictable year to people. People are discussing about the rumors of end of the world in recent decades. Is it true?

Kitten face
Kitten Face is not known for being much of a risk taker, well except for maybe in her fashion choices. She refuses to ride the tallest water slide at the 'Splash Splash' park with Puppy-Eyes, because she fears both heights and getting wet, she shudders at the thought of downhill skiing because let's face it, for a kitten she has surprisingly terrible balance and finally she is not all that into hiking down in 'Butterfly Valley' because of all the butterflies and what she considers their incredibly unpredictable and frightening flight patterns! So in an effort to change this image and after significant encouragement from Puppy-Eyes (he would really like to take her to Butterfly Valley on a picnic), she has decided to add one 'living on the edge' moment to her daily routine. Today she mastered riding her tricycle with one paw...tomorrow she may try two...and who knows maybe after enough of these 'kitten steps' she will one day be ready to take on butterflies.

Los Onas suponen que en las variadas fases de la luna hay seres ocultos enemigos de los hombres que les causan mayor pavor.El engrosamiento gradual de la luna KRE les inspira gran miedo, porque creen que para engrosarse se alimenta de criaturas humanas, a las cuales les chupa la sangre que les causa la muerte. De aquí que cuando llega el plenilunio hagan fiestas alrededor de grandes fogatas y bailan y gritan en algazara infernal durante toda la noche, celebrando él haber librado del peligro de muerte a sus hijos, que aman con mucha ternura.

"Ilustrar no es solamente ponerle imágenes a un texto. Se vuelve la manera en la que vivo el relato, de acuerdo a mis experiencias, inquietudes y a lo que las palabras me van contando. Miles de imágenes e ideas surgen desde el texto. Es tarea del ilustrador ordenarlas de la manera más expresiva y original posible. Así, el lector queda invitado a recorrer, junto con las imágenes, ese otro mundo posible que ofrece un texto, un cuento o un relato. Pero el lector debe saber que ése es solo UNO de los mundos posibles, ya que hay tantas maneras de ilustrar un texto como ilustradores, escritores y lectores hay en este otro mundo, el que habitamos."

Isabel Hojas nació en Santiago el año 1977, ciudad en donde reside actualmente. Egresó como Licenciada en Artes Plásticas de la Universidad Católica de Chile, y desde entonces, se ha dedicado a la ilustración, oficio en el cual se reúne su amor por los libros y la imagen. Su trabajo lo ha desarrollado principalmente para libros infantiles, pero colabora con sus ilustraciones en revistas y diversas publicaciones.
