http://appnel.com/code/log/2008/02/not-just-a-license I think the points you make are valid for Open Source in general and, perhaps, pertinent to MTOS in particular at this stage. There is a certain amount of scepticism about motives and a certain amount of bandstanding with people backing their 'teams' and cheering them on. From the point of view of somebody who is very much just a user, I welcome not only another good application being made available, but would hope that MTOS gets good attention and help from the Open Source community because by so doing, end users are going to have more choice. That may sound selfish (which it is) and there are obviously only so many developers with so much time, but there seems to be a progression towards a small number of CMS/blog applications which are universally recognised as good, followed by an increasing number of what are beginning to appear as 'also rans'.

Movable Type 5 Beta | MovableType.org - Home of the MT Community

Though we still have loose ends to tie up, we wanted to get the code so that people could begin to use it and provide feedback. We plan to release a new beta version every two weeks until the app is stable. Once stable, we’ll be creating release candidates. And we’re hoping to offer a stable build in mid November. Development of MT4.3 and 4.31 were led by the Services team in the US and was primarily focused on app performance, resolving pain points common on large installations, making some of their most popular plugins part of the core product, and a major documentation update. (MT 4.31 is the current stable build supported by Six Apart.) http://www.movabletype.org/2009/09/mt5_beta.html

A great debate has arisen (if you aren’t already aware) between those that believe in structure, taxonomies, ontologies and organization with those that believe that search technology is good enough for us to toss everything into one big bag and let the search engines sort it out.
