Putting on blue underwear and finding out about your origin doesn't suddenly make you the JC of super heroes, descending from the heavens to smite evil with atom-smashing precision. The fact that this shows him being tortured about his origin, and being fairly human in his mistakes makes him overall more likeable, and to a degree more relatable.
