VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's. Top 200 Songs of the '90s. WCBS Top 500 Oldies Playlist – Paul Altobelli. The nucleus of this playlist started when I attempted to recreate the WCBS Top 500 Oldies of all-time based on airplay and New York City charts. As I complied my list and listened to the music I came to the realization that I could do better. I just didn’t agree with or even remember some of the songs included on the WCBS list. So, here’s my top 500 oldies of all time based on WCBS Top 500 Oldies playlist. As mentioned in the book High Fidelity , there is a certain art to making a great mix tape or CD. The majority of songs had to be released in between 1955 and 1975. I included songs that I heard on the Philadelphia stations WIP, WIBG, and WFIL.
If I heard a song played at a wedding and lot of older people got up to dance to it (ie Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll”) I put it on the list. I included songs that sounded like they were recoded during the ’55-’75 time frame (ie Billy Joel’s “The Longest Time”) This list could have easily have been 1000 songs. Doowop Jukebox Hall of Fame. The Doo-Wop Jukebox Hall Of Fame is dedicated to the best songs of the doo-wop era. While many song lists have been created over the years, each of these lists is only just that ... a "list". The Doo-Wop Jukebox Hall Of Fame is an attempt to go one step further, to create not only a list of songs but to build a framework around each song and put the song in context.
Each song is presented for your listening enjoyment along with information about the performers, including personal accounts by people who have seen the group perform. We hope this approach helps visitors to experience and understand this music .... vocal group harmony which flourished in the 1950s and 1960s. Songs were selected by a select group of members of The Doo-Wop Jukebox Forum and are ranked in groups of 25 for ease of presentation and to reflect popularity of the songs.
