The Interesting Ways series continues to be a great example of crowdsourcing good quality classroom ideas and it has been a privilege connecting with all of the people who have taken time to add an idea. Thank you so much for sharing all these fabulous resources together. I'll be bookmarking this page and sharing it with many other teachers in the future. http://www.edu.blogs.com/ In early February I presented, in French, a 90 minute story about how design thinking and the educational worlds of formative assessment, school building, curriculum and assessment strategy are all bound together. I wanted to show to the audience at Clair 2012 in New Brunswick, Canada, what can happen when these apparently unrelated worlds of technology startups, product design and formal education are bound together by leaders with foresight and an understanding of the detail and complexity of learning, amazing learning opportunities can happen. It was a joy to speak about the complexity of learning and teaching, with the time and audience who got it - it was, after all, New Brunswick teachers that taught me how to really teach through their French immersion, project-led pedagogy. It's the first time I've ever had a standing ovation for a talk, especially one that was 90 minutes and between opportunities for the audience to drink wine and eat cheese. I was taken aback by that.

LASD and Khan Academy Pilot

Last week we had some visitors come through our classroom to observe students using Khan Academy. To the outside observer, the students were animated, sharing with each other, and looking pretty excited about math. In my teacher eyes, they were out of their seats more than usual, distracted and unfocused, and generally a bit loud. While most were busy working on KA, many were just horsing around and looking for silly ways to keep each other busy.

Probably the session that has made the biggest impact on me here at Moodlemoot 2012 was Stuart Lamour’s presentation from Sussex University on Fine-Tuning the Moodle Experience. Can we really be surprised by this, as over the three days here at Moodlemoot we have heard speaker after speaker, delegate after delegate talk about the “scroll of death” and that teachers and learners call Moodle “boring”. As most people who use Moodle know, the “scroll of death” is a feature of Moodle that arises when you actually use Moodle for anything more than showing people how to use Moodle. If you create a Moodle course with real students, then it slowly fills up with links and resources to the point where if the learner is to get anywhere on the course they have to scroll, scroll and scroll again. http://elearningstuff.net/

Kirkpatrick has for decades been the only game in town in the evaluation of training, although hardly known in education. In his early Techniques for evaluation training programmes (1959) and Evaluating training programmes: The four levels (1994), he proposed a standard approach to the evaluation of training that became a de facto standard. It is a simple and sensible schema but has it stood the test of time?

Educational Origami is a blog and a wiki, about 21st Century Teaching and Learning. This wiki is not just about the integration of technology into the classroom, though this is certainly a critical area, it is about shifting our educational paradigm. The world is not as simple as saying teachers are digital immigrants and students digital natives.

FE Connect

An absolutely fantastic way of way of evidencing a learning journey, developing literacy and e-skills around a particular theme. Have the students set up a blog about a topic, e.g which is better Xbox or ps3, have them research features, costs, aesthetics etc and then discuss findings on there blog. Using mobile devices they can upload pictures / videos outside of the classroom, maybe on a trip or visit to pc world as supplementary evidence. Obviously consideration around blog safety and security is paramount however they can be set to private if not within a domain and also permissions can be set.
