Pottermore Revealed to Be an Interactive Harry Potter Experience. Pottermore, a mysterious new site by J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter book series, is an online hub for everything Harry Potter-related, Rowling revealed on YouTube on Thursday. Pottermore, which Rowling created in partnership with Sony, will include an interactive reading experience of the Harry Potter books. Fans will also be able to buy audio books and, for the first time, Harry Potter novels as ebooks. The site goes live in October, but some users will be able to enter early. Additional details about that will be revealed on the site on July 31, but Rowling dropped a clue for those aching to enter the site early: "Follow the Owl.

Cannes 2011. Scream. BP oil spill set for big screen | Film. A drama showing the courage of workers on board the Deepwater Horizon rig in the moments leading up to April's disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico looks set for the big screen. Hollywood has picked up the rights to a New York Times article published in December, Deepwater Horizon's Final Hours, which evoked the "raw emotion" experienced by those on board prior to the explosion which caused the spill. Eleven workers were killed and another 17 injured when methane gas from the well shot up out of the drill column and caught fire, creating one of the worst environmental catastrophes in US history.
"This film will portray the great heroism that took place last year on the Deepwater Horizon rig and how colleagues so courageously came to each other's aide," said producer Erik Feig of Summit Entertainment. The New York Times article, written by David Barstow, David Rohde and Stephanie Saul, depicts events on board the rig in striking and dramatic language. "We're going to die! Lego, the toy brick maker, is thanking the magical qualities of Harry Potter for it side-stepping the economic downturn as the company announced booming sales and market share figures. The Danish group says 2010 profit before tax rose by 63% to £563m, as sales grew by 32% to £1.8bn, and it now claims to be the world's fourth‑largest toy manufacturer with a global market share of 5.9%. The renewed success of Lego worldwide has also been mirrored in the UK, where the brand's market share leaped from 4.6% to 6.2% as retail consumer sales grew by 48% last year.
Marko Ilincic, the UK managing director, said: "Lego UK has enjoyed phenomenal sales over the past year. While it was fantastic to see sustained growth within our classic product lines, such as Lego Star Wars and Lego City, we were equally delighted to see that the launch of our new Lego Harry Potter products further consolidated our market position over the Christmas period. Elizabeth Taylor in Lassie Come Home … Photograph: Allstar/Cinetext/ It's difficult to think of a better argument for the separate-but-equal value of the terms "actor" and "film star" than the career of Elizabeth Taylor.
If that reads as a slight on her ability, it shouldn't. Taylor was a sporadically marvellous performer, one who rarely superseded her director or material but who could, with those factors working in her favour, surpass some of her more gifted peers' capacity for reckless emotional danger. She was the rare actor who was as interesting on a bad day as on a good one, and not just for her mesmeric physical beauty: like any great film star, she was as compelled by her own screen presence as we were, aware of how it needed to be consistently adjusted and exaggerated for the camera.
Taylor's filmography ranges from the imperiously accomplished to the gobsmackingly inept, yet she never seemed entirely uninvested in the outcome of her own performance. Elizabeth Taylor dies aged 79 | Film. One of the last old Hollywood icons … Elizabeth Taylor. Photograph: James Smeal/BEI/Rex Features Dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor, arguably the last great female star ofthe Hollywood studio system, has died at the age of 79.
The Oscar-winning star died in the early hours of the morning at Cedars-Sinai medical centre in Los Angeles, from congestive heart failure, according to her spokeswoman Sally Morrison. She said Taylor's children were at her side. Dame Elizabeth, who had been in ill health for a number of years, was taken to the hospital with heart failure six weeks ago. A spokeswoman for the hospital said: "She passed away at 1.28 [0828 GMT]. " Taylor's luminous screen presence, allied to a colourful private life, made her a mainstay of US popular culture for more than 50 years. Born in Hampstead, north London, Taylor relocated to the US in 1939 and made her screen debut as a nine-year-old in the 1942 Universal comedy There's One Born Every Minute.
Daniel Craig Dresses in Drag for Women’s Rights. Why would 007 be in drag? He’s not undercover — he’s promoting International Women’s Day, naturally. So it’s a bit odd, but Daniel Craig stars in a PSA for women’s rights in character as James Bond with the help of Dame Judi Dench as M. (More on TIME.com: Britain to Help Dads Out With Parental Leave) The two-minute video features a backlit Bond listening to the voice of his commander, M, as she schools him on the realities of women’s inequality worldwide.
From the pay gap to women losing their jobs for falling pregnant to the staggering instances of sexual assault, M leads up to the question, “For someone with such a fondness for women, I wonder if you’ve ever considered what it might be like to be one?” Bond then disappears and reemerges in drag, while M continues to name the disproportionate dangers that women face, like being denied education, being battered by domestic partners or being murdered by current or former lovers. Over the July Fourth holiday weekend, America gave thanks to those who have given it its freedom and defended its liberty from the powers that would take it away: Transformers.
Indeed, one of the film's spots (above) seems to leverage both its Independence Day weekend release date and America's anti-terrorism zeal to ratchet up the rhetoric. "We will kill them all," growls good guy Optimus Prime after a passing tattered stars and stripes flag flaps in the destruction of an American city, a declaration that could apply to the film's Decepticons as well as Al Qaeda. Transformers: Dark of the Moon is hardly only a mirror of the nation's political discourse — it is also a commercial juggernaut so knitted together with product placement that it's impossible to tell where the film ends and the commercial begins.
