Blog | Unfortunately time was tight this past week, reducing the number of updates I could write and the amount of work being done. I have loaded the character data, faction data, setup the current region and loaded the location data for my save game. For the moment I’m working on getting dungeons fully loaded from the save games, which has had me revisiting the dungeon loading code again. It turns out this process has allowed me to clean up the code a bit, with better understanding gained by approaching the code from another angle. So I’ll describe a bit of the way Daggerfall interprets dungeon data, which is a little different then DaggerXL did before this point. I’ll also explain a little about how objects are allocated and used. Textures Revisited First, you’ll recall the texture assignment code I showed before for dungeons when explaining how random numbers were involved. It turns out that function is specific to dungeon textures, so I now call it DungeonTex_RandByte().

We’re nominated for the IGF Nuovo prize. Hooray! If you’re in SF for GDC, see you there! Proteus won 4 Golden Teabags at the #indievisiblity awards party last night! This was weirdly overwhelming! I loved the absurdist golden spray-painted teabags and One Life Left’s twitter-prank of stitching up Dan Marshall as drunkenly punching one of the winners (me, as it turned out). Huge thanks to Dan and Sheridans for organising and sponsoring such a great evening, and the One Life Left team for exuberant hosting duties.

Also big love to Alex May for the bed for the night and the 2am omelette feast, and Micheal Brough for being a magical wizard and bringing his iPad and dev build of Glitch Tank. Amazing to meet up with all the London bunch, old friends and new. (ah, oh yeah: listen out for the next episode of 99coins. We won the Audio award at Indiecade!
