Straight Line Graphs Part 3 - Parallel and Perpendicular Lines. This post will look at resources for teaching equations of parallel and perpendicular lines.
I used this Perpendicular Gradients worksheet from MathsPad and really liked it. Pupils have to find the gradients of each of the lines and see how the pairs link to each other. I also like this Parallel and Perpendicular Lines matching activity where you have to match up the parallel lines. Teach It Maths have Pairs of Lines activities which would be great in the lesson and require a lot of thinking.
In the first activity pupils have to find 7 lines that fit the conditions of the Venn diagram. For investigating parallel lines I like this Parallel Line Equations resource from Don Steward. There is a whole lesson from the Mathematics Assessment Project which includes lots of activities and ideas for class discussions. ALutwyche has a nice activity for parallel and perpendicular lines. Smokeejoy has a parallel and perpendicular lines investigation.
