A former assistant gave me a copy of this essay. I was amazed because it sounded as though I was speaking and then I realized the enormous debt I owe to Howard Pyle. Among others, he taught Harvey Dunn who then passed it on in his lecture. This is the legacy left us by Howard Pyle. I have scanned it and edited it to pass this wisdom onto you…RH It will be apparent that the following notes and comments were made in criticism of pictorial compositions submitted by the students, and as this work cannot of necessity be shown in conjunction with the text it may be felt that something is left to be desired.
Lorraine's creativity started from a very early age, and to this day she remains creative, never commiting to one genre, but continues to experiment and develop. Lorraine taught acrylic painting at the Murray Harbour Community School for two years, and is based on Prince Edward Island on the south east coast bordering on Northumberland Strait, with an ocean view for inspiration. In this acrylic demo, Lorraine uses chalk to draw onto the background, and continues to build up layers of paint with glazing techniques.
