This website is for teachers of chemistry in schools and colleges. It is a collection of experiments that demonstrate a wide range of chemical concepts and processes. Some of the experiments can be used as starting-points for investigations or for enhancement activities. Many have links to carefully selected further reading and all include information and guidance for technicians. We hope you will share your experiences of making experiments work in the classroom by submitting your ideas about a particular experiment or contributing an idea for a new experiment to add to the site. "Teaching chemistry laboratory procedures by means of a virtual laboratory on a personal computer is a very powerful concept. Students are not limited by time or space in the virtual laboratory, and educational institutions which do not have the physical or economic means to maintain a real chemistry lab will welcome this alternative. Model ChemLab is just such a tool. It is compatible with Windows and Macintosh operating systems which are found in most schools. Use is very intuitive and easy to learn.

This page contains a number of experiments that took place in the first semester general chemistry laboratory course at the University of Siegen, Germany. They were photographed and/or filmed to give current students as well as other people interested the possibility to glimpse an introductory chemistry class outside of lecture. In addition, a short description of the theory has been added. We are not recommending that you perform these experiments on your own. Roughly two experiments will be added weekly.
