Regrettably the sort of answers and advice Choice gives them is what a lot of "consumer" coffee machine purchasers want.... They probably don't know what a good coffee tastes like - God knows how many cafes make crap coffee- they think textured milk should be soap suds floating on burnt milk- and they want to press a button to get it! So pressurised baskets that you can throw any old coffee into, tamp with a plastic "thing" that leaves a 5mm gap all around the basket.... and produce a very ordinary (marginally better than instant) coffee are the go. Similarly fancy milk frothing (soap suds producing) wands are great- no skill required! An most will never have heard of CoffeeSnobs or any other similar site where they can get good advice and then make great rather than ordinary coffee.

The last time we wrote about a concert we went to we received a fairly nasty comment that we shouldn’t be writing about a George Michael concert because it had nothing to do with coffee. True! Which brings me to my next concert review Spandau Ballet (Sydney Entertainment Centre, April 23, 2010). The stars almost perfectly aligned last Friday night in Sydney.

Barista Brothers

http://simonfoodfavourites.blogspot.com/ A quick taste of Malaysia If you’ve had the sneaking suspicion that Ipoh on York had the same owners as Jimmy’s Recipe Malaysia in The Galeries you’d be half right. Apparently it’s owned by one of the brothers but I believe the businesses are run separately so there might be differences in the menu. For a start there’s no bain-marie yet service turnaround is still very efficient and my Seafood Laksa ($11.50) comes out at a frightening speed after I’ve ordered.

If Sydneysiders are ready to embrace new neighbourhoods, then Chippendale is ripe for a giant bear hug. The object of affection? Freda's Bar & Canteen , set up in a formerly abandoned warehouse in the inner city. Sure we're all used to hidden bars and secret entrances, but you know things are serious when even the bar's blog has a photo essay published with directions on how to find it. http://www.grabyourfork.blogspot.com/

So that is a picture of me with a scarf on my head heading towards the Great Ocean Road in a convertible. That is how I remained until five minutes later when the rain started falling and we had to put the roof back up. The sunglasses were whipped off and the scarf removed and I became me again. Ah well, it was fun to play fantasy while it lasted! Mr NQN and I have just flow into Melbourne Airport and were making the journey to South Australia for a six car pilgrimage to picturesque Kangaroo Island starting the journey by driving down the legendary Great Ocean Road, a first for me.

McDonald’s to be First Location-based Marketer on Facebook: Report

http://gigaom.com/2010/05/06/mcdonalds-to-be-first-location-based-marketer-on-facebook-report/ McDonald’s will be the first marketer to use Facebook’s forthcoming location platform, according to Advertising Age . Users will be given the ability to check in at a location using a status update on Facebook as early as this month, AdAge reports, and then see a featured product targeted to that location. McDonald’s will reportedly be the first brand to participate, as part of a larger media buy. However, Facebook won’t necessarily be charging advertisers for the highly targeted, extremely valuable, serendipity-inducing, long-term-relationship-forming privilege of showing their promotion to a nearby customer on an already-open Facebook mobile app, if the Ad Age report is to be believed. Asked specifically about geolocation features, Facebook national sales director Kevin Colleran said at a conference yesterday, “We never launch a functionality with the intent of monetizing it,” noting that Facebook mobile usage currently goes entirely unmonetized.

It all starts with the permission slip. Yes, when teachers send them home before the bell rings so parents can rubber stamp the bumpy yellow bus trip to the museum, then it’s on, my friends, it’s on . Soon the days count down and the buzz builds up as the class gets ready for the day away from school.
