The first photo shows an old Buddhism temple in the foreground, right beside one of the new temples of the capitialistic era, the shopping centers. On the second picture a traditional Chinese block, with small wooden houses often with a small shop installed on the ground floor. Only a few minutes walk away, new skyscrapers are built in an area popular among foreign expats. In my opinion it's these contrasts that make Shanghai an interesting and dynamic City.
