Brewcitymike I'd love to find somewhere, anywhere that I can camp in the woods, not on a campsite. Somewhere that I can build a shelter, and fire and just enjoy the solitude. Does anyone know of any places like that her in WI? I thought that it was allowed on the Ice Age trail but according to the rangers in K.M. you are only allowed to camp at the designated shelters and even then you can only stay at a shelter for one night and then you have to push on.

Walkabout Guy It's going to be a bit of a drive, but you might try the Nicolet National Forest. It's perfectly legal (check the forest service website for the regulations.) It sucks that we in the midwest are limited in our camping options, but dispersed camping in the Nat Forests is really probably the best (and most likely the only legal) options.
