GIMP stands for the G NU I mage M anipulation P rogram. It is a free web graphics editor. You can resize images, compress images, layer images, create graphics and more using the GIMP. For those on a budget or just wanting to play with web graphics design before investing in a more expensive web graphics editor (like Photoshop or FireWorks), then it's well worth learning how to use the GIMP first.

PSPI is a GIMP plug-in that runs 3rd-party Photoshop plug-in filters. I wrote it in 2001, and it initially worked on Windows only. Then nothing much happened until March 2006 when it became available also on Linux. All that was needed, basically, was for somebody to try building it using winegcc.
